Joan MacDougall

Obituary of Joan Sandra MacDougall

Joan Sandra MacDougall (Bowie) passed on from this life on December 12, 2024.  She is survived by her sister Patricia and brother-in-law Bryan, her daughter Lisa and son-in-law Jim, her son John and daughter-in-law Denise, and her grandchildren Meg, Jean and Owen.

Joan was a dedicated, welcoming and heartwarming elementary school teacher who taught with love but also reassurance.  She was a formidable advocate for children both inside and outside of the classroom. Her schools included E.I. McCulley, Orchard Park and Parnall.

Joan and her late husband Bob were avid golfers and lifelong members of the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club where they enjoyed many years of the sport and the camaraderie of many friends.

She was a longtime congregation member of the Church of the Transfiguration in St. Catharines.  Consistent with her dedication to faith, Joan was kind, charitable and respectful to everyone.  Charles Dickens is to have said “…there were two classes of people, those who did little and made a lot of noise, and those who did a great deal and made no noise at all”.  Joan was the latter.

In life Joan was a selfless and loving mother and a devoted spouse.  She was a warm and caring grandmother, and in this regard, hugs were her specialty.

In Joan’s memory, and in the spirit of the season, we ask that you give to the charity of your choice.  The world is a better place because of Joan.  Her spirit can live on.  Please give.
