Obituary of Gerald Thomas Saxton

SAXTON, Gerald Thomas (“Gerry”) – With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of beloved husband, father, son and brother Gerald “Gerry” Saxton at age 55 on Monday, November 21, 2022. Gerry was in his 18th year of service with the St. Catharines Fire Department. Sadly, Gerry succumbed to injuries recieved in the line of duty. He was a much-loved member of the firefighter and Merritton communities through his years of volunteering, coaching hockey and soccer. Gerry was the devoted and loving husband of 29 years to his wife Lorraine, and proud father of Brett, Shane (Beth Kvas), Cole and Eve. He is survived by his father Bill (the late Marlene) Saxton of St. Catharines, brother Bill (Jill) Saxton of Niagara-on-the-Lake, and sister Nadine (Doug) Carr of Ridgeway. Gerry is also survived by his brothers-in-law Gary (Tracey) Condon of St. Catharines and Sean (Norma) Condon of Toronto, and by sister-in-law Elizabeth Montgomery of St. Catharines. He will be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews.  The Saxton family would like to thank the first responders and staff at St. Catharines General Hospital for taking such great care of Gerry. Special thanks go to the St. Catharines Fire Department and the St. Catharines Professional Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 485. A kind-hearted soul, Gerry was exceptionally fond of dogs. Memorial donations can be made in Gerry’s name to the Lincoln County Humane Society.  Visitation will be Wednesday, November 30, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St. in St. Catharines. A memorial service to Gerry will be held at 1 p.m. at GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME. Reception to follow at Merritton Community Centre, 7 Park Ave. in St. Catharines.
