Reg MacGregor: A Gentleman. Reg MacGregor: A gentle man. I saw how he followed those traits in his daily life. He taught by example. He was a selfless man. He was always there for me to celebrate the highs and give me his sound advice when needed. He put things into perspective. I will greatly miss you, dear friend. You and Madeleine will at last be together again!!

Mr. MacGregor was one of my all time favourite elementary school teachers. He taught me music on rotary in Grade 7 and 8 at Scottlea Public School, shortly after the school board had added a 12 classroom intermediate wing to the building in the 1960's. I remember Mr. MacGregor, tall, friendly, so kind, smartly dressed in his business suits, nothing like the attire we Intermediate teachers were wearing at DSBN schools for years already before I retired in 2008. Haha! I see Mr. MacGregor still, seated at the piano in the music room on the second floor, playing and singing with us, teaching us quality songs that instilled the love of music in us, nurturing our minds and souls with wholesome tunes. My most memorable event is him preparing our very large Grade 7 and 8 choir, of which my sister and I were a part, for the music festival. The piece that remains in my heart and deep memory is "The Lord is my Shepherd." The large mass of boys and girls in our choir stood in SATB groupings along the four walls of the room, practising diligently at noon hours, memorizing all five verses of this wonderful hymn in perfect four-part harmony. Something about Mr. MacGregor gave me to believe he lived the faith that reflected that song, and he inspired me for many years, though I never crossed paths with him again. I'd been raised on the same faith, and it was comforting and encouraging to me as a young girl to have a teacher at school who also shared love for the Shepherd. Later, as the Intermediate music teacher at Vineland School from 1991-2006, I often thought of my model - kind, gentle, patient Mr. MacGregor, - as I, too, enjoyed instilling the love of music in my students, teaching them quality tunes from musicals, classical pieces, and contemporary songs, and yes, inspirational hymns of faith. I am so thankful for Mr. Reginald MacGregor's influence on my life. I pray God will go with you and your family, as you mourn the loss of this wonderful man. Sincerely, Josie Martens, Vineland

My sincere sympathy to Laura and David and all of Reg's family. I always wanted to be on his school staff and when mentioned to him, he wouldn't take any credit and brushed it off as he always wanted to have fun. However, I did have the privilege to work with him at St. Giles' choir where he was a valued member. We enjoyed his musical talent and his participation in song and discussions at practice. He was a true gentleman! May you reap your well deserved reward,Reg, and rest in peace! Ruth

My sincere condolences to Laura and David, their spouses and the McGregor family on the death of Reg. Reg stands out in my mind as the most compassionate, thoughtful and gentle Principal of the 12 Principals I worked with over my 20 years with the DSBN. He was one of a kind, a true "Gentle-man" and will be deeply missed.
