Obituary of Irene Stella Welgan

WELGAN, Irene

Passed away peacefully on Friday, April 9, 2021 at the age of 88. Beloved Wife of the late Mike (2017) for over 50 years. Loving Mom to Dianne (Alex) and Kim (Rob). Cherished Bop to Mackenzie (Cody), Kendra, and Alyona. Great Grandmother to Mila. Irene will be dearly missed by her sister Jean Rutter in Calgary, AB, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In her younger years, Irene was a skilled Basketball player playing for the McKinnons Merry Macs and Collegiate High School. She also enjoyed competative curling for many years. Irene was very caring towards all animals and enjoyed the company of her beloved dog Red. She was described by her grandchildren as, determined, strong, independent and funny. Irene was very invested in their co-ownership of Welgan’s TV and electronics, a well-known business in St. Catharines for over 40 years that sold the first colour television in the city. Mike’s dream to have his wife join him and walk through fields of flowers together will now be fulfilled.

A private family service has taken place. Donations may be made to the Lincoln County Humane Society or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
