To Ian, Scott and your loved ones. Our deepest sympathy for the loss of one heck of a great guy! Your dad was an amazing man and was always a big favourite of ours at the wonderful parties my dad used to host. Especially New Years Eve. Your dad was always given the special scotch! Dad used to instruct me about who got it and who didn't haha!
Both your mum and dad also were very thoughtful about visiting my mum after my dad (Ed) passed away. Your dad was a pallbearer as well. They were a wonderful couple. My mum's illness is a bit too far for her to comprehend a funeral or even get out of the house. My apologies for not attending. I certainly would have if out situation would allow it.
Bless you all

My deepest condolences to Bob's family. Always enjoyed our quiet chats, usually at the loading dock behind headquarters. Everything from Association business to the latest Quintin Jardine novel he had to lend me. And when I retired Bob walked into my office. Shakes my hand and gives me a bottle of 16 year old Jura...I was gobsmacked...RIP Bob...

Dear Ian, Scott & Family:
Please accept my sincere heartfelt condolences to you, your families, and friends of your dad. I had the pleasure of working with him, he was a good friend, we kept tabs on each other, and I had just e-mailed him prior to his passing. He had a dry wit, was proud of his Scottish heritage and may have said, ’if not for Scotland, there would be no Nessie.’
May the many good memories of the different facets of your dad give you comfort and strength as time passes
Your dad has ended his watch honourably and he will be missed by all of us.
So Mote It Be
Sandy MacMillan
An honest man here lies at rest,
As e’er God with His image blest:
The friend of man, the friend of truth;
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm’d,
Few heads with knowledge so inform’d:
If there’s another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this.

Bob McNaughton was my very first training officer when I started my career with the Peel Regional Police, many years ago. Bob was a straight talking and direct. He introduced me to the other officers on my shift and during the many years I worked with him, Bob and the others taught me what it means to serve others and do a difficult job as part of a team. I am very sorry for your loss.

Bob was a fine Police officer, and a good man. He not only knew his job well but performed with fairness, compassion and thought. Sometimes justice wasn't as important as fairness. A lesson he thankfully passed on to many.
It was an honour to have known and worked with him may he rest in Peace

I remember Bob being a guy with a wicked sense of Scottish humour. If he didn't pick on the young guys, he didn't really like them. I always looked forward to Sunday morning breakfasts in the radio room; under the careful watch of Sgt. (Brownie) Brown.
Here is a funny story which could be read during the funeral.
Bad winter evening. Working the radio room. Multiple calls asking what the roads were like. Very frustrating. I got a "road condition" call and Bob snapped. "Let me take it", he said. I tried to tell him who the caller was, but he wouldn't listen. Bob started to give the caller proper hell for calling the police re road condition information. Bob went silent, then he said, "Sgt. Brown." Then passed the call to Brownie. We heard a lot of "yes sirs" and then Brownie hung up. We asked who the caller was that Bob was blasting and Brownie said it was the Chief! Then we heard Brownie say, "Come with me Bob. We have to chat." Bob got his butt kicked and returned to the radio room quite quiet (rare) and we all saw that he had a tail. It was between his legs. And yes, I did modify the colorful language to the more black and white version.

Bob was indeed a seasoned officer who helped many young recruits.
He had a smile that disarmed you right away and an accent that left no doubt
his heritage, of which he was so proud. During the train derailment in 1979, I had the good fortune of having him as our communications officer in the command post and he made certain everything was "tickety boo". RIP Bob.
