Obituary of Edward Collins
COLLINS, Edward E.A.
Surrounded by loved ones at home, Ted passed away peacefully on Friday April 28, 2017, at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Mavis for 68 years. Loving father of Ted Jr. (Ana), Larry (Ellen) and Carolyn (Jeff). Proud grandfather/poppa to Chris (died 1988), Cindy (Rob), Brittney, Travis (Kitty), Kelsey (Tom), Lauren, Rachel, Melanie, Gillian, Lenna, and Jackson. Our father had a very special bond with his grandson Travis, which he will cherish forever. Great grandfather to Brooke, Kyle, Skyla, and Grayson.
Ted was born, raised and resided in Merritton, and was a pillar of the Merritton Community. Ted was a lifetime member of the Merritton Lions Club, A Merritton Volunteer Firefighter, and longtime member of the Merritton Legion, Branch 138. Ted was a retired employee of the St. Catharines Hydro. In his youth, Dad was a star baseball and basketball player, and to this day he still holds the record for longest hit homerun in Lancaster Park. In 2000, he was inducted into the St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame.
Special thanks to Dr. Oelofse, and CCAC Niagara for all their support. Cremation has taken place. Family and Friends will be welcomed at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Monday, May 8 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. A Celebration of Ted's life will be held on Tuesday, May 9 at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel.
