I met Mike in January 2013 at The Business Education Council. From the time I met Mike, I learned that he was a kind gentle person who had a love for conversation. I practically knew his whole life story within a few short weeks. I also learned that Mike had a passion for fitness and natural healing. Prior to me meeting Mike, I had suffered an injury to my rotator cuff. What no medical practitioner on the face of the earth could fix, Mike was able to. He told me that I should not pay for any form of therapy because he could get me better. What other professionals made so complicated, Mike was able to simply my therapy… with the use of a soup can, He patiently instructed me to exercise and strengthen my very painful and weakened rotator cuff. Within a very short time, my pain had diminished and I was back to normal.
I also learned that Mike had a love for “Tim Hortons Coffee. We would often go for coffee at the downtown Tim Hortons, the place where I leaned so much about Mike and the fitness facility “Body Balance” that Mike once owned.
Whenever I walk by the downtown Tim Hortons, I often peep in the window and stand there and reflect back at the great convos we once had.
Mike, I know that you are now in a better place. The struggles and suffering is now over. We will never forget you. We love you Buddy.
John and Elane.

Purple Rain (Prince) was the most fitting song to end Mike's funeral service with yesterday. I watched the video with lyrics, and it was as though, for a portion of this song anyway, that it was Mike speaking to me;
"I never meant to cause you any sorrow,"
"I never meant to cause you any pain,"
I know you didn't Mike!
"I only wanted one time to see you laughing"
and that you did Mike
"I only want to see you laughing in the purple rain"
thanks Mike, I know you do buddy!
"I only wanted to be some kind of friend"
and that you were Mike, greatly appreciated.
"It's such a shame our friendship had to end"
and that it is my friend.
I can only hope to see you in another place at another time where the Purple Rain is falling once again

I am so sad to hear of Mike's passing. Several years ago I walked into his fitness club and Mike transformed my whole perspective on healthy living. He was kind, a great sense of humour, and made us all feel good about ourselves. Please know Mike made a difference in my life as well as many others I am sure.

Our family is saddened to hear this news. Mike was a mentor to our son Josh. He was Josh's personal trainer and close friend when Josh was only sixteen. I remember the first day we met him. I brought Josh to Body Balance to talk to Mike about training him for hockey. He asked Josh to do walking lunges with overhead dumbbell presses all around the outside of the plaza and told him when he was finished he would decide if he could train him or not. It was July and it was hot outside but Josh did it!! Mike was impressed and later told Josh he was half joking but completely impressed and he quickly became someone Josh looked up to. Our family credits Mike for so much of Josh's success both in hockey and now as an elite crossfit competitor who owns a very successful training facility in Welland. From the day the two of them met Josh always said he wanted to be just like Mike and train and mentor people in fitness. They lost touch in recent years but Josh always had plans to make it big in fitness and some day buy Mike an awesome car for being such a great mentor and motivator. He knew how much Mike loved cars. Josh called early this morning to share this sad news with us. We just returned from Crossfit Regionals in Albany New York last night. Something I am certain Josh may have never accomplished with out meeting Mike on that hot July day 8 years ago. I just want his family to know what a difference he made in our son's life. We are so sorry for your loss and our love and prayers are with you during this very difficult time. Sincerely The Gervais Family.

I first met "Wally" at the Lakeside, my brother owned it at the time. He was a bouncer and he was definitely dedicated to his job!
Just last summer I had seen Mike again. He had met my children and had been over to my parents house for a barbecue or 2. He was a gentle soul inside a tough exterior.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family now. May they find comfort that Mike is at peace now.
