Obituary of Daniel Francis "Frank" Dwyer
Dwyer, Daniel Francis "Frank" - Passed peacefully at age 88 , on January 17, 2016 at Hotel Dieu- Shaver Hospital. Frank is survived by his loving wife Ann of 64 years and their five children - Jim (Anne), Janet (Judith), Mary Bell, Maggie Haines, and Maureen Zanardi (Mike). Grandpa to Mark (Colleen) Zanardi, Mike and Dan, Steven and Bradley Haines and Sarah Huntington. Uncle to many loving nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Margaret (nee DeCourcy) and Timothy, brother Fergus and sister Margaret Lucille. Survived also by his siblings Joseph, Edward (Gerry), Rose Frayne and sister-in-law Nelda.
Frank was born on July 27, 1927 in Logan Township, Perth County and raised on a one hundred acre farm where he learned the values of hard work and family. He settled in St. Catharines, met and married Ann Gasbarini and was very active in the rowing community as an oarsman, coach and volunteer. Frank enjoyed a life long career with St. Catharines Hydro (PUC) beginning as a linesman and retiring as superintendant in 1990.
In the neighbourhood where he lived for sixty years, Frank was a handyman and helper for all their neighbours. "Call Frank" was a common reply to many questions especially if they involved something mechanical. There were few things he couldn't fix - sharing a beer and a job well done brought him much joy. In the last decade of his life he lovingly cared for his wife Ann and was relied upon by family and friends.
The Dwyer family would like to thank all their neighbours and friends for their continued support, especially during this past decade. Much gratitude also to Dr. Arvinte, Sister Louise and the exceptional nurses and staff at Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital for their compassion, care and kindness.
According to Frank's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at St. Denis Church, 230 Lake Street, on Saturday January 23, 2016 at 10 am for a funeral mass. A reception will follow afterwards in the church hall. A private family burial will take place a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the George Darte Funeral Home, 905-937-4444. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Niagara Children's Centre would be greatly appreciated by Frank.
