I will certainly never let another International Women's Day go by without thinking of Irene. She didn't just raise two daughters, she set an example for their many friends, like me. She met life's challenges with a strong faith, a positive spirit, an easy smile and boundless energy.
She was always good company and we shared many a good conversation and much laughter over a meal or a couple of glasses of Kahlua and skim milk. I'd visit her in Niagara even if Gail wasn't there. I remember her generosity in lending me her new Toyota so that I could practice handling skids on icy surfaces in the Pen Centre parking lot and that is just one example.
The fact that her daughters chose to live close to her in her final years is a testament to the kind of mother she was. I am thankful to have known her.
