Obituary of Chiarina La Selva

LA SELVA, Chiarina (Clara) Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at Niagara-on-the-Lake Hospital on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the age of 90. Clara is predeceased by her husband Angelo and by her daughter Cori (Frank), and survived by her two sons Fred and Samuel. She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren Sandra (Todd), Laura (Ian), and Linda (Erik), and great grandchildren Sasha, Rhys, Theodore, and Natalie. Also left to mourn her passing are her brother, Gino and Anna Frado and her sister Richetta Fratangelo as well as members of her family in Italy. In 1953, she came with her children to Canada from Castellino del Biferno, Campobasso to join her husband who arrived one year earlier. In addition to raising her three children with loving care, she worked part-time for many years to supplement the family income and she was an enthusiastic member of the Italian Women's Auxiliary at her local church. She took particular pride and joy in preparing festive dinners for her large, extended family at Christmas and other special occasions. She will always be remembered with deep love and profound respect for what a remarkable human being she was. She came from a poor Italian village with little education and few advantages, but she did a great deal of good in her life both for her family and many other people. Please, God, take care of her. Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Tuesday, November 18 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Vigil prayers will be recited on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Alfred's Church, 272 Vine St., St. Catharines on Wednesday, November 19 at 10:30 a.m., with entombment to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
