Obituary of Paul Joseph Curley

Curley, Fr. Paul Joseph: Peacefully on Wednesday April 27, 2011 at he St. Catharines General Hospital in his 80th year. He is survived by his brother Charles (Karen), his nieces and nephews Michael (Laura), Janine (Fred), Thomas, Charles Jr. (Suzette) Regina (Mike), Drew (Cheryl), Melissa (Greg), Jay (Jen), and 11 great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Alfred and Mary Curley, and sister in law Janet. Paul grew up in Port Dalhousie and attended St. Ann's School, as well as St. Catharines Collegiate before entering St. Augustine Seminary in Toronto where he was ordained in 1957 and served at various parishes throughout the Diocese of St. Catharines, he went on to receive his masters in education from Niagara University, then began his career teaching in Aurora before moving to Notre Dame College School in Welland as a Chaplin and later at Lakeshore Catholic Secondary School, after his retirement he still enjoyed assisting at various parishes who needed him. Everyone will miss his tender love and care for children, that he entertained with his magic tricks and his playful interactions during his masses. He will be sadly missed by the residents of Heatherwood who were treated to his musical talents. The family wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses in the I.C.U at the St. Catharines General Hospital for their care for Fr. Paul, as well as Fr. Andy Goodwin for his time, care and compassion during this difficult time. Fr. Paul is resting at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St. St. Catharines. Visitations will be held on Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Vigil prayers will be said in the funeral home on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria on Wednesday May 4th, at 1 p.m. with the rite of committal to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Memorial remembrances made to the Walker Family Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family.
