It's a difficult time when you lose a Grandpa. We get so caught up in our own grievng and sense of loss we lose sight of the person. We always think of them as ours, and forget the impact they have had on others.
Your Grandpa was truly a hero, and a man of respect.
I remember being in North Bay as a little kid and going for a walk in the winter. Freezing cold.... Uncle Bill holding my hand and talking to me....I thought "Uncle Bill sure mumbles a lot", but in hindsight I always thought he taught me maybe I should listen a little closer.
Later in his life I remember him taking advanced level courses and committing himself to improvement. It was personally inspiring to see him discover, attempt, and conquer what was probably unknown to him.
What courage it must have taken to take on these challenges and ultimately succeed.
My last few recollections are when he came to our house for my son's Baptism and Mom's 75th birthday.
Again, I was amazed at the intensity and desire he expressed to be there. A little feistiness??? and comments regarding the sad state of the Argo's, the government, my pathetic golf game, and his sense of direction, mixed with pure joy to be with us.
Days I'll always remember and treasure.
I'm sure you will hear many stories over the next few days as I did when my father died.
The one thing that is amazing is that it's not just your Grandpa, it's a person who impacted many, many, people.......and we are better off for knowing him.
We'll miss him
Peter

Bill was always a complete gentleman, even when we were on the opposite sides in a "gin" game at the golf club. I was aware of all his health problems, and I admired him because he never ever mentioned his difficulties. Sympathy to those concerned.
