Obituary of Ivan William John Foster
FOSTER W.J. IVAN Passed away, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness, on Thursday March 23, 2006 at the St. Catharines General Hospital, at 71 years of age. Beloved husband of Orlean, for 50 years. Loving father of Craig (Karen) and Karen (John) Bredin. Cherished grandpa of Brian, Lindsay, Michael Foster , Erin, Christopher and Kevin Bredin. Dear brother of Elda (Roy) Smith and Pat Foster. Predeceased by his sisters Jeanne Moore and Margaret Flood. Ivan will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Mr Foster taught at St. Catharines Collegiate Institute and Vocational School, for 32 years, where he was Head of Guidance. He retired in 1991. He coached basketball at the school for 30 years. Ivan was recently inducted into the Owen Sound Sports Hall of Fame. He was past president of the St. Catharines Gyro Club and of the Ontario School Counsellor†™s Association, a former member of the Board of Directors of Twenty Valley Golf and Country Club and current chair of the Board of Trustees of Welland Avenue United Church.
Mr. Foster is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. until Monday at 10:30am. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held in Welland Avenue United Church at 11am. Cremation to follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 7-9pm and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9pm. Memorial remembrances to Wellspring Niagara Regional Cancer Support Center would be appreciated by the family.
