My Opa was a great man, he was kind and especially loving. He loved to watch TV and talk to friends and loved ones. I will always remember all the great memories that we shared together and I will never forget all the laughs and fun we shared. Opa used to call me Shorty and always used to say putferdosy. But over all I see that now he is in a better place following God and Jesus. I also know he will be watching over all of us and will always be in our hearts. I'll miss you very much Kodi Wright.

Bill, you have been in my life for 42 yrs. I have always respected you and appreciated all the things you have done in my life. My dad Gerardus Van Velzen has shared the same burden with you. He loved you as a friend and trusted your judgement by asking you to take great care of my mom. You have fullfilled his wish and made him rest peacefully. I love you so much and will always remember your time we spent together. My heart is full of pain at this time. I will never forget you as I have never forgotten my own father. I will fullfill your wish by taking care of mom so please rest in peace knowing mom will be ok. Please hug my pup for me and tell him I love him too! Love always Angie xoxoxo...

Its seems so unreal....knowing that it was only a few days ago that you were smiling and laughing with your family, and now your gone. You were the kind of man thats not so easily forgotten....we have shared so many years, so many memories. Your kindness, laughter and love will always live inside my heart forever, and I will always remember those happy moments. You have taught me that even in the hardest of times I can be brave, that its family thats the most important thing, and that life's moments should be cherished because you never know what day will be your last. Thank you for being a wonderful opa, a caring father, a thoughtful friend, and my biggest hero. love always, Sarah

As, my Opa, passed away, It really made me appreciate him! He was so nice to me, and he was always a happy man, and wore a smile on his face. Although, i only knew my Opa for thirteen years, i knew all that i needed to know about him! He lived a wonderful life! I remember that he always called me shorty and he called my dog Pepsi "Blackie!". I used to play mousey mousey with me and i would never laugh, i learned to hold it in! I also remember when my Opa would say Puttfordosey! I always laughed after he said that word it sounded funny. I am so happy that this man was in my life! And, i will always love him in my heart!

To my family and friends of Bill Van Straten.
I felt I had to write these words to express my feelings and what Bill meant to me.
I knew Bill from a very early age as our two families were close, age wise between brothers and sisters. We went camping together, alot. Bill and Pup were the best of friends, went to work together steady midnights. When I was 16-17 years old my father became very ill with cancer, there was nothing the doctors could do for him. I remember my mother, Bill and uncle Jerry praying on their knees out loud in our living room for what seemed like for hours, hoping for some kind of miracle to save his life. Unfortunately prayers were not enough. In Pups final hours Bill was by his side with my mom and sister. My dad asked Bill to take care of mom, and Bill promised he would and kept that promise till his final days. Bill never tries to take the place of Pup, he was always there for advice and never made any of us kids feel unwanted. my mother and Bill had many adventures in life traveling alot and enjoying each others company. He watch Aaron and Shelby play soccer when he could, he called Shelby "Shorty" she and Aaron called him Opa. I will miss him as well as the rest of my family, we will never forget him as he was a big part of our lives. I thank him for keeping his promise to Pup and I will keep my promise to him to look after my mom. He wasn't my dad, he was a friend of mine and his name was Bill Van Straten.
Always loved never to be forgotten

Dearest Bill;
It has taken me a few days longer than I had planned to send these words to you. I will miss you for a very long time and will think of you forever. It was with a very heavy heart that I had to say good-bye to you but I want you to know that I truly understood what you wanted in those final days and will fulfil your wishes. I and my family were blessed to have had you in our lives.You were a special person and we all know it. You were a private man, a learned man and man with ideals. You encouraged and commented and never made anyone feel that they were less than they were. You endured many moments of silliness from myself and my sister and yet you enjoyed and it makes me happy to know we made you laugh. You enjoyed the simple things in life. A flower garden , a bird singing, a rainbow , the ocean. I always enjoyed sharing the morning cup of coffe with you when I came to visit. You know you were loved and will always be. I may speak to you again soon , if not here than most certainly in the mornings. I would also like to leave this thought with you to let you know how I feel. It's just a little poem I found but just as sweet as you were.
ALWAYS NEAR:
As the dawn mists over the horizon,
and the sun closes its evening shade,
it's with such certainty I know
You are always near.
Love you forever and say Hi to POP
