Obituary of Stephen Ruf
RUF STEPHEN Following a battle with cancer, on Saturday August 27, 2005 at Hotel Dieu-Shaver Rehab, at 72 years of age. Beloved husband of Winnifred (Wagg-Whynacht) Ruf. Loving step-father of Paul (Irma) Whynacht, Sean (Crystal) Whynacht, and grandfather of Michael. Brother-in-law of Gerald and the late Alaine Wagg. Stephen is survived by his cousin Kurt (Heidi)Bohlendorf of Germany. Predeceased by infant son Norbert.
Stephen was employed for 33 years by Niagara Structural Steel Co. where he was President of the local U.S.W.A. for several years. He was a member of the Masonic Order of Niagara Lodge #2. Director for several years at Heidehof Home for the Aged, and was instru mental in organizing the first Folk Dance Group at Club Heidelberg. He was Founder of Folk Arts Council of St Catharines and President for 2 years. He also organized the Ontario Sausage Festival with Walter Ostanek at Lipa Park. He was appointed and served from 1993-1996 as a Commissioner of Niagara Parks. Stephen was awarded a Queen' s Silver Jubilee medal in 1977 for his community activities.
Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at the George Darte Funeral Home 585 Carlton St. on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A Memorial Service to celebrate Stephen's life will be held at the Queen Street Baptist Church on Wednesday at 11:00am. Inurnment in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Memorial remembrances to the Multi Cultural Center on Church St., Queen St. Baptist Church or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
