Winn,
My sister called to tell me the sad news of Steve's passing. I was shocked, I'm sorry to say that I didn't know he was ill, I wish I had a chance to say goodbye. As you know, I've known Steve since I was a very little girl. I used to love going to his house in the north end for visits and playing with his little wooden German trinkets and German dolls! He used to try to teach me the polka and all those twirly German dances, I think I just stood on his toes and let him do all the work! I have many fond memories of Steve, I remember tagging along with him at many of the early Folk Arts Festivals & parades and then of course came the big greasy sausage festival, he always had that big grin on his face, waving to everyone, all day long, he was in all his glory, wasn't he?! And that's how I'll always remember him. He was always very kind, caring and generous with mom and I, we thought of him as family. I hope they have found each other up there in heaven, and I hope you find some peace in the days ahead. I'm so sorry Winn for your loss, but happy for him that he spent his last years with you, you made him such a happy man, and he will be truly missed by all.
Sincerely, Patsy

Winn,
So sorry to hear of Steve's death. He will be greatly missed by his friends, family and the community. His name will always be linked to the many things he has accomplished.
My thoughts and prayers are with you Winn (and I'm sure my mom would have had a few things to say as well)

My sincere condolences to his family during this sad time for them.
I first met Steve while doing volunteer photography for the Folk Arts Festival with the St.Catharines Camera Club many years ago.
I found him to be a very friendly help to me during that period, and was only thinking about him a couple of days ago, strange as it may seem.

My condolences to Stephen Ruf's family. I had the pleasure of meeting his widow just this morning when she came into the office.
I only started working at the Folk Arts Council/ Multicultural Centre 6 weeks ago in my position as Fundraising Coordinator.
On doing research of the Centre, I kept seeing the name Stephen Ruf.
I asked Josefina, the receptionist, "Who is this Stephen Ruf, anyway?"
I was told that he was the one to start the Folk Arts Festival, along with some other projects.
Josefina said that we could visit him in the hospital; I jumped at the chance.
I wanted to go and meet the man who started the festival.
He was sleeping, and couldn't talk. I was very sorry I did not get a chance to meet him.
Somehow, even I, who never had a chance to talk to him, feel a loss in my heart.
After doing some research on the Internet, I felt awe when I read of his accomplishments.
I have never been in the same room with a man who has done so much for his community.
Stephen Ruf, thank you.
Without you, the Folk Arts would not be today.
