Obituary of John Chotka
Chotka, John Charles Passed away peacefully at the St.Catharines General Hospital in the Palliative Care Unit July 31st , 2007. Loving Husband and partner for 53 years of the late Alice Chotka (Kane) (2003). Dearest Father of Kathy-Jean and John D.Perri of Thorold and John A. and Margaret Chotka of Niagara on the Lake. John is survived and will fondly be remembered by his brother Albert Chotka and his wife Rose of Swan River Manitoba plus his many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by 14 other brothers and sisters many of whom resided in St.Catharines and the Niagara Peninsula area. Born September 2nd 1924 in McCreary Manitoba, John came to St.Catharines in the late 40's. He worked in the hospitality industry until he founded his business and became President of Niagara Frontier Caterers Ltd.,a large foodservice company employing as many as 155 people until he sold his business in 1987. During his 33 year business career John and his family pioneered the catering business serving the public during visits by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, serving numerous Prime Ministers of Canada and Premiers of the Province, numerous film companies and entertainment group's while visiting the Niagara area. His business served industry, education and the public sector food and beverages during that time. He was recognized by his industry many times both nationally and internationally with various awards for his service excellence and food quality at numerous exhibitions during those years. A member of the St.Catharines Rotary Club, a member of the board of directors of the Mobile International Caterer's Association, a member of the board of director's of the Canadian Restaurant Association, a member of the St.Catharines Business Club and a Mason. John and his family would like to recognize and thank the caregivers and staff of Henley House here in St.Catharines where he resided the past 4 years and the care provided by the staff and doctors of the Palliative Care Unit at the St.Catharines General Hospital. John's family will receive their family and friends at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton Street until Thursday Aug 2 with viewing from 2-4 and from 7-9 pm. A ceremony to celebrate John's life will be held in the chapel on Friday at 11am. Cremation and inurnment will follow at a later date. Memorial remembrances for John may be made to the Parkinson's Society of Canada or the Niagara Health System towards their new hospital and Cancer Unit Campaign.
