To my dear friend Lump.
We have counted our friendship in our parallel families - with our two boys, and Harry and Alex born within hours of each other; our trips to Vermont, Marco Island (it was a great Millennium), visits to Alberta; hundreds of runs down the slopes of Kissingbridge and Ellicotteville; hundreds of nights at Pete's Market, Tabeni's (OK - we were an old looking 17), Fran Lounge, Anchor Bar, Press Box, Hacienda Pizza (thanks for bringing the pizzas and 24 Miller to Edmonton), John's Flaming Hearth and most recently Bugsy's; the thousands of holes of golf, even more thousands of beers and the tens of thousands of laughs and good times we shared.
Although our 40 year friendship was at times seperated by months and at a time - years- it was a friendship that we were able to pick up, as if we were teenagers again in St. Catharines.
I struggle knowing that I will not be able to pick up the phone and call my friend Lump.
Save a stool for me at the bar - order the jumbo combo spicy buffalo wings, pizza and a couple of extra jugs of beer. See you in Heaven Lump.

Phyllis, Mac, Kim and Harrison,
I could easily write a book reciting all of the wonderful stories and memories I have of Don~what an amazing guy he was! I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to get to know him and call him my friend. He was someone I looked up to and it was quite something to see how he captured the hearts and respect of all those kids he taught, that is truly a gift. Please know he was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
Much love, Lori and Ken

Dear Mrs. P. Hull, Harrison, and Family,
My heart is saddened so surprisingly read of your husband, and father's passing. I am sorry I wasn't able to personally express my condolences to you, as I now live in Toronto, and only just read online of Mr. Hull's passing.
It is such a difficult and challenging experience to lose someone who is held so dear and close to us.... and we are only reminded of that by the sting of death. I often tell people, that it's okay to hurt, and that you'll only hurt as much as you loved him.
You are an amazing family..and one who I believe will be very capable of turning your grief into beauty, in whatever way you can.
I wish you the most sincere and genuine memories, and for you to continue sharing the special bond that your family does.
Please let me know if there is ever anything I can do for you all.
With warm hugs; your old student, and school-mate,
Nathan Romagnoli
Toronto.

Phyllis, Mac, Kim, & My favourite friend Harrison;
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time. Having the pleasure of teaching with Don, I found he had an amazing ability to communicate with his students. He gave and received respect from all he knew. His laugh as well as his stories will be missed. May you find comfort in knowing that Don touched the lives of so many and gave them the gift of many happy memories.
He made the children proud of who they were. He was every parents dream teacher for their child. To sum it up, He cared!!

Dear Harrison and family,
It is with deepest regrets that Carol and I heard of your father's passing today. I will always remember your Dad watching you curl with a big grin on his face. I only spoke with him a few times and I could tell from those brief instants the kind, warm hearted man he was and how proud he was of you. I understand much too well the pain you are feeling at this time as just two days prior to your Dad passing my father passed as well. It's hard not to notice the similarities.. They died within two days of each other both of a brain tumor and they shared the same birthday, May 31st. Not to mention that they were dearly loved by their sons. May God rest both their souls and bring us peace in grieving their loss.

Words just cannot express the sadness we feel for you at this time. I'm glad I got to say hello to Don and all of you, at the hospital last year, I hadn't seen you in so long. I so hoped as I walked away that he would be better and his health problems would be over.
Take comfort in the fact that he was a great man and you are one of the nicest families I have ever had the pleasure to know.
Phyllis, you and Don have raised 2 wonderful boys who will be your rock through all of this, and they will be a constant reminder of the wonderful memories you have together.

Dear Phylis and Family,
My parents, Bill and Thelma Carlson, and I would like to express our sincere sympathy to you on the passing of Lumpy. We remember him fondly from the Golf Club, particularly golfing with our late Les. Don had the most natural swing we were envious about. He was always so easy to talk to with his superb laugh of mischief. As a former educator of 23 years, I am sure Lump must have been AWESOME in the classroom. May you find comfort in your memories and each other. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this challenging time. God Bless.
Most sincerely,
Karen

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere condolences to Don's family. I worked with Don at John T. Tuck and often shared some laughs with Don during our lunch hour. He always had something interesting to talk about and his laugh will be missed. It was a sad day for staff members and students to learn about his passing because he was definitely a teacher who was respected by all those at Tuck.

My children Tyler & Elizabeth had the priviledge of having Mr. Hull as a teacher at John T. Tuck. He was a very kind and generous teacher to all he taught. Kids were always happy to find out they would have Mr. Hull as a teacher. It is with great sadness that he has left us, but his memory will always live on in everyone who knew him. We especially loved his Spongebob lunch bag, and his "chick magnetic costume on Halloween"!!!! MR.HULL YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!

My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time, and I want them to know that Mr. Hull will be always remembered as an amazing mentor and educator for all of his students.

Dear Phyllis,
I am so shocked to hear the sad news about Don. Although I hadn't seen you both in years, I reconnected with Lump when I did some supply work at Tuck last year. He was in top form then, just as I remembered him years ago. I can't believe he would become so ill so quickly. I fell your pain, Phyllis; my thought are with you.

Thinking of you with Heartfelt Sympathy
It's never easy to say good-bye, to let go of that hand..
It's never easy to bid farewell to someone who is so dear to you.
In your sorrow, may it help to know that there are many who share in your grief and care about you....
We will miss Don early in the morning trying, to keep up to him as he charged forward on the golf course, it was always a challenge to see you would get that first tee off time but he managed to be us...

Mr Hull was my grade 4 teacher (2004-5). Mr. Hull gave me many gifts. One that I will never forget is that he gave me confidence. He taught a few easier ways to do multiplication which i was having trouble with a the time and now I'm a pro. Mr. Hull showed me that i was able to do anything. He gave me a gentle push and got me started.

MY DEAR FRIEND DONALD (LUMPY)
YOU ARE GOING TO BE MISSED BY SO MANY PEOPLE. YOU HAD SO MANY FRIENDS.
I HAVE KNOWN DONALD FOR OVER 40 YEARS. A PERSON THAT ALWAYS HAD TIME TO TALK TO YOU, TELL ME ABOUT HIS TRAVELS, HIS TEACHINGS, ANYTHING ELSE THAT WAS NEW IN HIS LIFE. A REALLY NICE GUY WITH A VERY NICE WIFE, PHYLLIS, WHO DESERVED EACH OTHER. TWO MOST FRIENDLY PEOPLE. PEOPLE WHO GAVE BACK A LOT TO THE TEACHING FIELD THROUGH THEIR PLACEMENTS.
DONALD WAS A GREAT GUY TO SOCIALIZE WITH AT EITHER CATS OR THE MAMSION HOUSE IN THE OLD DAYS.
DONALD HAD A TERRIFIC SENSE OF HUMOUR. HE WAS A FUNNY GUY BUT HAD A HEART OF GOLD TOWARDS ALL THE PEOPLE WHO KNEW HIM.
GOD BLESS YOU DONALD AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR FAMILY AS YOU WOULD CARE FOR THEM YOURSELF.
YOUR FRIEND, WHO WILL MISS SEEING YOU, BUT KNOWS YOU ARE IN HEAVEN WITH GOD AND HIS ANGELS.

He was always jovial and always had a kind word to say. May you gain comfort in the fact that he was highly respected by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Mr Hull was one of the most fun-loving and caring men that I've ever met and he will be missed by so many. You are all in my thoughts and prayers, and as always, in my heart.

Our deepest sympathies to you at this time. It's been a good many years since I've seen you guys and words cannot describe how deeply sorry I am of to hear of his passing. Don was a great guy, he made all those weekends we spent at the ballpark over the years watching the boys play even that more fun. I hope the great memories you have of him will help you get through this time. He may not be with you in person, but knowing Don he will never be far away watching over you. Take care.
