Dear Dombeck Family; I was a colleague of Carl's, and I am sad to hear of his passing. When he was the Chair of the ERT, I appeared before him and worked with him on administrative matters. And, for a short time, Carl had the office next to mine while he worked at the Legal Branch of the Ministry of Natural Resources. Carl was a pleasure to work with and always had time to help and advise less experienced counsel. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Dear Margaret & Family,
I knew Carl during my time at OMAF and later when I was Deputy Minister of Citizenship with responsibility for the Human Rights Commission. I always appreciated Carl's legal counsel delivered in a practical forthright manner. I enjoyed his lighthearted and personal touch both on and off the job.
I recently lost my wife at age 58 so I can appreciate the pain and sorrow you are working through. I hope you have as many family and friends to support you as I did.
My sincere condolence in the loss of Carl.
Sincerely,
Bill Allen

Margaret, I am one of many lawyers with the Attorney General office that had the privilege of getting to know Carl and working with him. He hired me for a secondment with the Environmental Review Tribunal just before he left that position but I had known Carl for many years before through Murray Chitra. I liked Carl professionally and more importantly personally.
I just learned of Carl's passing and I am truly saddened and offer my condolences to you and your family.

Dear Margaret Dombek .... I only knew Carl through the time he spent at the Licence Appeal Tribunal and it was a pleasure to have met him. I believe I also had the opportunity to meet you once and I think Carl also took the time to read a little book I had written. I'm sorry for your loss and the difficult time you both endured over the period of Carl's illness - I remember Carl telling me about the trip you had to Europe and the enjoyment of it all. I am sure there will be wonderful moments of life which will continue to live. Sincerely, Simon Dann.

Several years ago, Carl was the senior lawyer in the former Ministry of Correctional Services. I was a probation officer in Northern Ontario and we all knew Carl and his legal expertise. He always had time for us and provided well researched and complete legal opinions - so very helpful to a young and inexperienced officer. Carl Dombeck will always be remembered by me for his gracious, down to earth approach and making a young officer feel so important. My sincere condolences - he was taken away much too soon.

Margaret, I am a former colleague of Carl's from his OMAF days in the late 80's. Carl and I were on the senior management team of the ministry at the same time- he always provided very sound legal advice, very timely policy advice, which helped me considerably, and was a good friend and colleague during those years. Even though agriculture was not his first area of study, Carl learned quickly, and more importantly gained the respect of my fellow Directors, ADMs, and the two Deputy Ministers- Clay Switzer and Rita Burak.
I also knew Carl to be ready for a good joke, laugh, or humourous anecdote/situation- sometimes at his expense. I recall that he and I were co-MCs at one late 1980's OMAF Christmas Party and he generously let me ad lib my lines while he played the straight man- and to better effect.
I kept in touch with Carl in the 90's off and on, but failed to keep in touch over the past several years. I will miss him, and my deepest condolences to you and your family.

Dear Margaret
I was saddened to hear of Carl's passing. I have very fond memories of the time I spent working with Carl in the Legal Services Branch of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. The atmosphere in the Branch was very collegial and that was due to the fact that Carl took an interest in us. I will always be thankful to him for having hired me and for allowing me to work on a part-time basis when I found it hard to juggle family life with work. I remember your kind hospitality when on several occasions you invited us for dinner at your home. I know that you and Carl were very close and I know that this will be a very difficult time for you. My thoughts are with you.

First of all, I want to send my deepest sympathy to Margaret and the family for their great loss. I am privileged to have been a friend of Carl, from the administrative law/tribunal community. I first met Carl in the 90's when he was appointed to the Liquor Licence Board of Ontario. His no-nonsense, straigtforward manner left a deep impression with me. I met Carl again in 2005 at the CCAT Conference in Ottawa when he was the President of the organization. Carl is a staunch supporter of diversity for CCAT and he was able to get me interested to work for CCAT as a volunteer to co-chair the 2006 Conference. Through Carl I made acquaintance with many new friends and renewed many old friendships as well. Carl will always be remembered for his straightforward, no-nonsense approach to life and his devotion to Margaret and Margaret to him, and his tireless work for the community. Have a good rest Carl, I will always remember you and your kindness.

Dear Marg,
We can only begin to imagine the sorrow you are experiencing with Carl's death. He was your heart's companion for so many years. I don't think that we can ever be prepared for that to cease.
Carl was larger-than-life and his "presence" filled our many get-togethers over the years! I will never forget when you brought him for your first visit when Lowell and I had moved to Ottawa.... I think that he was a bit worried about meeting some more Western "red-necks". But it seemed to turn out fine!!
Carl was an exceptional raconteur, with a lively interest in all that was going on around him (even our boisterous boys) and a wicked wit! It was wonderful to count him as a friend and to know that we will carry on our various reminiscences when we get together Marg.
I know that the past months must have been even more trying than I understood them to have been when we chatted in June (or was it July). I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to talk with both of you at that time!
Our prayers will be with you as you visit with family and friends and celebrate Carl's life together - this evening and during the service tomorrow. We will chat soon.
Love,
Genelle and Lowell

Dear Margaret: I was shocked and saddened to hear about Carl's passing. My heart goes out to you. He was such a wonderful man , with tremendous joie de vivre . He was also a very fine boss . It was a very special time in the Legal Services Branch at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, when we all worked for Carl. I will forever be grateful to him - he went out his way , not once, but twice to help me get going in my legal career . I know I am not the only one he helped - he had a true generosity of spirit.
My deepest sympathies to you and your family. I will be sending a donation in Carl's name to a medical charity .

Dear Margaret. Andrew and I are very sorry for your loss. Carl was a special person to work for in the Legal Branch at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. How well I remember the day that we were sitting beside each other at a meeting (he was newly arrived at the branch) and we suddenly realized that we had gone to the same high school in St. Catharines! And then Andrew and I visiting you and Carl in Regina. There are so many memories that come to mind - all of them happy ones. Carl was a good friend. Our thoughts go out to you at this very sad time.

Dear Margaret
Over the past weeks while Carl has been in hospital, we - his colleagues and staff at the Licence Appeal Tribunal - have all been reminded of Carl's many contributions to the Tribunal. He supported the principles of excellence in public service and sought improvements to the service that the Tribunal could give to the people of Ontario. He urged others to carry these principles forward through his work in the broader tribunal community. Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss.
Lynda Tanaka, Acting Chair, Licence Appeal Tribunal
