Obituary of Hanna Gibbons

GIBBONS, Hanna Lee - Passed away peacefully at the Welland General Hospital on Wednesday February 17, 2010 at the age of 61. Beloved wife of the late Conrad. Cherished sister of John (Marion) Hedberg, Sarah (the late John) Collings and their families and step daughter of Joan Hedberg. She leaves behind her adoring K9 children Blue and Midnight. Hanna was embraced by Conrad's family. Her mother in law Laurette Gibbons, Doris & Bill Townsend, Daniel & Jeanne Rankin and children Matthew and Alexandra, Leslie & Gary Forbes and children Melanie and Gordon of North Carolina. Predeceased by her parents Robert and Martha Hedberg. Hanna met Conrad while teaching at the Konongo-Odumasi Secondary School in Ghana. They were married in Pennsylvania on September 9th 1972 and immediately moved to Canada where she fell in love with St. Catharines, Conrad's hometown. She was employed as a bank teller at Scotia Bank, and later taught elementary school French classes in Niagara on the Lake. After that, she went to Brock University where she obtained her Chartered Accounting Degree, joining Deloitte as a Chartered Accountant specializing in US taxes. Hanna was an active member of her community through various organizations such as Sweet Adelines Chorus, PROUD, the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario and the Alumni Association of Brock University. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Hanna's life will be held at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. on Saturday February 27, 2010 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated by her family.
