Obituary of Thomas J. Smelle

Thomas J. Smelle Sr. (Sept 8, 1926 - Oct 1, 2009) It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of Tom Smelle. Dad is now reunited with his beloved wife Annie (July 16, 2009). We, his loving children, Linda, Tom & Kathy, Paul & Paula, and Marianne will miss him dearly. Dad was the proud grandpa of Holly & Terry Smygwaty, Nathan Smelle(Vanessa), Stacey & Chris Older, Ryan Smelle (Fiance Teresa). Great Grandpa to Grayson, Hailey and Ryan. Tom is survived by sisters Fran & Al Lounsbury, Helen Giroux, Brother James Smelle, sister in law Doris Smelle, brother inlaw Nick Heculuck, sister in law Emily Heculuck. He is predeceased by brother Paul Smelle and Twin brother Carl Smelle. He is fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, Dad played left wing for many hockey clubs - St. Catharines Jr. A Falcons, Hamilton Pats (Sr. A), Hamilton Tigers (Sr. A), St. John's Beavers, Valley Field Braves, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, and several local teams. Mom was his greatest fan. Dad & Mom were avid fisherman. Dad also loved to throw horseshoes, especially against his brother Carl, brother in law John. Tom also loved to tell a story and his re-enactment of his many escapades entertained all of us. Dad & Mom built a successful business - Niagara Cycle and Sports. Tom is resting at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St. St. Catharines. Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., on Sunday October 4, 2009. Vigil prayers will be said in the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday October 5, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria with interment to follow at Victorialawn Cemetery. Memorial remembrances made to the Walker Family Cancer Centre would be greatly appreciated by the family.
