Obituary of William Harry Wakely

William Harry Wakely passed away peacefully at the Niagara Hospital on January 14th at the age of 84 after a lengthy illness.  Loving husband of Doreen. Cherished father to Bonnie-Lynn and Beth-Ann and step daughter Melissa. Proud grandfather of Eamon and Mary and step grandchildren Amelia, George, Merideth and Alexander. Dear brother to Garry.

Born in Port Hope, Ontario in 1940; William had a lifetime passion for sports, particularly baseball and hockey. After graduating from the Ontario Police College, William climbed the ranks of the Port Hope Police Department and became a Forensics Officer. William was proud to be the equipment manager for the Port Hope Predators. William was very active in the community of Port Hope; presenting at the local schools about safety and volunteering as a driving instructor. In his later years, William and his wife Doreen enjoyed golfing and gardening together.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the St. Catharines General and Niagara Falls Hospital for their compassionate services rendered to William.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the George Darte Funeral Home. As per William’s wishes, a private cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 15th at 11am at the St. Georges Church, 83 Church St, St. Catharines. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date in Port Hope.
