It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edith Shirley Railton (nee Burtch) after a short illness at Niagara Health St. Catharines site on Jan 2, 2025, at the age of 93. She was a dedicated and loving wife of 67 years to her late husband Glenn Irwin Railton, beloved mother of Nancy Tyrer (Dave) and Janet Sulatycky (Nick), cherished grandmother of Andrea Tyrer (Andre Cire), Rosalyn Tyrer, Brian Sulatycky (Lee-Ann) and Steven Sulatycky (Catherine Stewart) and adored great-grandmother of Vera, Eva and Maddie Sulatycky and sister of Lawrence and William Burtch (predeceased). 

Shirley found her greatest joy in the company of her family, always treasuring moments spent with her daughters, grandchildren, and great-granddaughters. Her love for them was boundless, and she created countless cherished memories that will live on forever in their hearts.

A talented and passionate artist, over many decades, Shirley brought beauty into the world through her oil paintings featuring landscapes and flowers and in her later year she moved to watercolours. Her creativity also extended to her gardens, where she lovingly nurtured a vibrant rose and perennial garden, creating a haven of peace and inspiration for her paintings. She found equal delight in baking, filling her home with the comforting aroma of fresh-baked treats especially fruit pies, squares and cookies, a testament to her love and care for those around her.

Shirley will be remembered for her kindness, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, art, and devotion that will be treasured for generations.

A celebration of Shirley's life will be held on Jan 8,2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Darte Funeral Home in St. Catharines. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region or Walker Family Cancer Center.
