Obituary of Elena Colangelo
Elena Colangelo (Ne: Mizzoni) passed away peacefully at Niagara Health St Catharines Site on Thursday, November 21st at the age of 94. Cherished mother to Renato (Ron) and mother-in-law to Carol. Proud Nonna of Jeremy and Alicia. Dear sister to Maria Pia Salvatori. Pre deceased by her mother Agata Mizzoni, father Gerardo Mizzoni and siblings Santina, Angela and Renato.
Born in 1930 in Veroli, Italy. Elena immigrated to Canada in 1951. She worked as a hairdresser into her 80th year and was an avid gardener. She took great pride in her flower gardens. The absolute joy of her life was babysitting and spending time with her grandchildren Jeremy and Alicia. Elena’s greatest passion was preparing delicious meals for her family. We never left her home hungry.
Elena’s family would like to thank the staff at Ina Grafton assisted living facility for their patience and care. A special thank you also to all the nurses, doctors and staff at the NH - St Catharines Site.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME 585 Carlton St. Catharines. A visitation will be held on Sunday December 1st from 1-3pm with funeral service to follow at 3pm. Following the service, a reception will be held at the George Darte Funeral Home with refreshments and a light dinner. Burial will be held the following day, Monday, December 2nd at Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery, 305 Erskine Ave, Toronto, ON at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Elena’s memory can be made to the Niagara Health Kidney Care Program.
Jeremy and Alicia would like to express their love and gratitude to their Nonna for her years of unconditional love and devotion. Thank you Nonna for letting us destroy your living room and build our forts. We never heard the word “no” from you.
