My many fabulous memories of our times playing tennis, ski trips and bocce ball games too, as well as the food and beverages we all enjoyed will be cherished. I spent many years going to Sandham’s for the grape and wine parade. And I actually tried Otto’s steak tartar, he made it every year! He will be missed by many. Rest In Peace my friend! My sincere condolences to the family! B!

So many stories, and so many memories.
Meeting him for the first time in St. Catharines, over a beer and a meal, bringing our first born to Ontario, he drove me all over Ontario to visit with friend and family, he took care of Abraham and I, as new mom and son.
One can never forget Otto’s birthday! Every Christmas Eve we would make sure we there with Otto to Celebrate at the stoke of midnight a shot of Yaggermister.
A super awkward evening where we chose to watch ‘40 year old virgin’ lol.
Watching Otto’s home videos of the time he spent in Australia, that made me laugh because the videos were an old school mix of burry shots, ground shots, and drunk people spread all over. We didn’t watch and enjoy for the videos, we were there for the commentary. It was to be with Otto listening to him recount story after story of all of the things our Australian family did together.
Listening to Otto’s many stories, you know he lead a full life from one party to another, I know Isobel and Otto lead a full life.
Neil and I were blessed with three grand babies, that Otto loved dearly.
As soon as Abraham was born, Issy and Otto jumped on an airplane to meet Abe when he was just three months old. It was the first time Neil and I could sneak away from being new parents, Abe loved Otto right away, it was his first time without mom and dad, and they both did great, Otto fell right into being Grandpa for the first time.
That would be the first of many adventures we took together. Mount Tremblant, Ellicotville, trips to hot springs, Los Angelas, many holidays and vacations together for 20 years.
Covid isolated most people, our family did the opposite, we kept our family closer. Neil and I took up sailing and had bought a boat, Otto helped us every weekend get our boat ‘sea worthy’. We camped in his backyard so we could all be together, while distancing.
I would say this valve is stuck…he would say hold on, and run away to his box of goodies, and come back with some magic potion that sure enough, did the job. Everything that worked came with disclaimer, ‘don’t use it all up’, ‘they don’t make stuff this good anymore’, or ‘you can still buy this across the boarder!’
He was always there to support Neil and I in raising our three children. Neil was out of town often, and there was Otto supporting me with the kids. Getting Lil to dance lessons, while I took care of our newest bundle of joy, Bennett.
Some of my fondest memories were just heading down to St Paul, visiting grandpa at his shop.
He would talk forever about the things he was fixing, but really it was all about the people who went through the door, to stop and have a beer with Otto. We all knew the stuff was just an excuse to slow down, relax, and tell stories, and share life with each other.
Our kids looked at everything in the shop with awe and wonder. Otto would always oblige the kids by making them a shiny new key, which they loved. We had so many keys at our home that were for nothing!!
From hanging out in the beautiful backyard, and bbqs, to helping us find ‘the good shit’ to get rid of the ants that were cohabiting in our home in Royal Henley, to the best place for donuts, and ‘I know a guy who…’. All of your stories about corn roasts, Bennett takes after you, and insatiable love of corn.
I miss you Otto

My dad, Lou, took everything to Otto's shop for repair. Even his electric lawnmower each Spring. I'm sure Otto wondered why this gentleman from St. Patrick St. would do this this. Well Dad really liked honest hardworking local merchants who gave good service. I don't know what else Dad took to get fixed. But I know he was a big Otto fan. Actually dad probably took all his electric fans to Otto's for George to oil and clean. Dad didn't have air conditioning, just fans upstairs and down.
I knew Otto through my father and I kept in touch with him over the years. When he closed his shop he took up residence in the basement of the Grantham Home Hardware one day a week. Once I found him with an oversized egg shaped lamp on his bench. He said he would fix it as soon as he could figure out how to open it! Just like my dad I knew he was honest and hardworking and didn't want to let his regular customers down. So he kept working part-time.
If Amazon doesn't ship new cheap small appliances to Heaven, then Otto will have lots of old broken stuff to fix.
But can somebody please tell them,,, Otto doesn't work for money now, just beer. God Bless, RIP.

Otto entered a room always with a smile and an astute comedic comment, usually self deprecating, but Always with a Smile. Gentle and kind hearted, I've had the pleasure of being served a number of times, in the back nonetheless, at Sandham's for further consultations on needed repairs and with follow up sessions at Buggy's. Otto was a true Gentleman, enquiring about the welfare of those around him and showing much courage through to the last .ALL of our hearts are heavy.
Isabelle, Neil and Jill, please accept my most sincere Condolences. .

Although I didn’t know Otto personally, I certainly felt that I did, having visited the store so many times, over so many years.
It was only yesterday, that a friend and I were reminiscing about Sandham’s and how you could always find the part you needed, to fix your broken item.
Otto was always jovial and helpful when you came to the store and I was truly saddened when he decided to retire and close the shop.
It was the end of an era.
Otto was a true gentleman and will be missed by many.
My condolences go out to his family.
