Guerino De Meo

Obituary of Guerino De Meo

It is with saddened hearts that the De Meo family announce the peaceful passing of their beloved father, Nonno and great Nonno. Guerino passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on September 30, 2024 at the Niagara Health System in St. Catharines at the age of 95. Predeceased by his Beloved wife of 69 years and his one and only true love, Maria. Affectionately known as "Pa" and much loved father of Michael (Gloria), Italo (Bertha) and Anna (Mike) Vani. Adoring Nonno of Gary (Lisa), Melissa (Avi), Angela (Ben), Daniel (Laura), Danielle (Jesse) and Andrea (Bailey). Guerino loved and was blessed with 7 great grandchildren, Veda, Remy, Beau, Aiden, Monaco, Maeve, Crew and one on the way.

Guerino was one of 7 children to Guiseppe DeMeo and Vittoria (D'Urso) in Trivio, Italy.  His brothers Michael, Livio and Italo and sisters Ida and Rosa are all in heaven waiting for him. The only remaining sibling is his youngest brother, Erasmo, living in Rome.

He will be missed dearly by his only nephew and niece here in Canada, Joe (Rosanna) De Meo and Vicky Grano as well as many nieces and nephews in Italy.

Guerino was the Patriarch of our family showing us and teaching us the value and importance of family and hard work. Leaving Italy in 1961 with his wife Maria and 2 young sons in tow, they came to St. Catharines and settled in Thorold to start a new life. A few years later they were blessed with a daughter, Anna Maria. Starting from humble beginnings, they raised a beautiful family legacy which he was very proud of.

Guerino spent his life in Canada as a chef and cook.  His expertise in getting food out quickly clashed with Maria's slower and relaxed way of cooking.  Their "discussions" during their daily meal preparation was always entertaining, albeit sometimes quite loud.  In the end, Maria would always win because he loved her so much and practiced what he preached to us.  He would always tell us... No matter what Mom says or does, just remember, she's your mother.  Instilling the respect we always had for them. Thanks Pa.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses in 3A and the emergency room staff whose exceptional care and kindness brought much comfort to Guerino. The family would also like to thank Ina Grafton Gage Village for their wonderful care of Guerino during his 2 year stay.

Private family arrangements are entrusted to the George Darte Funeral Home, 905-937-4444. If so desired, donations made to HOSPICE NIAGARA in Guerino's memory would be appreciated by the family.
