Obituary of Gerald Albert Samways
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Albert Samways, a true one of a kind individual. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 14th, 2024 at Albright Manor. He is survived by his beloved wife Margaret, his four children and 8 grandchildren, and is predeceased bu his grandson Andrew. Gerald was born in Toronto to parents Irene and Charles (Babe) and attended St. Mikes Choir school in his formative years. Growing up, he loved to perform with his sister Renee and will be remembered for his love of music, his great voice and guitar playing. He married the love of his life Margaret on October 5th, 1957 and was married for 66 years. He took great pleasure in traveling with his wife and experiencng the culture of each place they visited and making new friends. He greatly enjoyed learning new languages and was able to master a couple of phrases in Italian, German and Spanish. He cherished his time in Mexico with Margaret and created many lifelong friendships and memories. While in Mexico they attended many parties with their friends (SuperBowl), leaving the cold weather in January and returning early March. Gerald worked at Revenue Canada for 30 years. He completed his accounting CMA degree while working full time. Working in St. Catharines, he than went on to complete his real estate designation. He was a life long learner and highly valued education. Upon retirement from Revenue Canada, he started his own taxation and Financial Consulting Business, working out of his home office for another 30 years, finally retiring in his 80's. He was an avid sports enthusiast. He loved hockey, swimming, golf, the New York Yankees and squash. He was a member of White Oaks for over thirty years and made long lasting friendships. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed surrounding himself with family and friends and created lasting impressions wherever he went. He will be remembered for his amazing sense of humour and contagious laugh. He lived his life to the fullest.
A celebration of life will be held at George Darte Funeral Home on Wednesday November 27th, 2024. Family will receive friends from 12-1pm and a Celebration of life will follow at 1pm. In lieu of flowers. donations can be made to Community Care, St.Catharines or Albright Manor in Beamsville in Gerald's memory would be appreciated by his family.
