So sorry to hear about Bob's passing! My condolences to the Adams family. Myself and my crewmembers had the distinct honor and privilege of being coached by Bob, in 1966. Bob was a terrific coach and instructor. He was a taskmaster for sure, but it was always in the context of wanting us to get better and achieve our goals! Through his tutelage, our 135 lb crew did something unprecedented by winning our junior and senior race in the same year, having only been done once before in 1947. I'll never forget the grin on his face as we returned to the dock, and shaking his head in disbelief.
We had the opportunity to reconnect with him in in 2016 at a 50 year reunion with our crew.
Bob was a great coach, but was also a wonderful person, who will be remembered, but missed by many people!

Dear Lillias, Robert, Bruce and family. Jennifer and I are so sorry to hear about Bob’s passing. Bob was a major influence in my life starting as a role model athlete at Grantham where he was a few years ahead of me. His character- big, strong, highly skilled, intensely motivated yet humble and easily self deprecating when he made a mistake is what enabled him to be an Olympic rower and U.S. scholarship football player! . Later as colleagues at the Collegiate I continued to look up to him as an ideal coach. What stood out for me was his passion for the game but especially for the success of the players. They had no stronger cheerleader than coach Adams and they reciprocated by their performance and by returning later to help coach with him! Not only are so many ex-players better men because of what they learned from him but the Bob Adams Coaching Tree continued to spread his influence to a whole new generation of young men. That is a great enduring legacy for the community! RIP Bob! You have left the world a better place!

Lillias, Robert and Bruce please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of Bob. Since 1966, Bill has known Bob as a coach, friend and colleague who consistently promoted kindness, patience and dedication. The world needs more educators and citizens like coach "Bob", who helped many students and colleagues achieve their goals and aspirations. In certain situations you might find yourself asking "what would Bob do"? which means his memory lives on with you. May your strongest memories of Bob sustain you through this difficult time. My condolences to the Adams Family at this sad time, but, the thoughts of such a sincere, humble, talented educator and athlete will lead to a celebration of a life well lived and respected.
I had the opportunity to row, play football and receive the mentorship of Bob. He was empathic, firm and always brought out the best both individually and as a team/crew. I know there are thousands of students, better individuals due to Coach Bob Adams

During my time at Collegiate I spent a lot of time around all of our coaches. One particular person I looked up to was Coach Adams. I had dreams bigger than my time at my school and. Coach Adams was one person who helped me believe they were possible. He was the first Olympian that I ever met. I always use to think how humble and nice he was and how that was possible after accomplishing a feat so great in athletics. On several occasions I had to remind myself that he wasn’t just a motivating supportive coach, teacher, mentor. He helped me believe that someone coming from St. Catharines could accomplish their dreams. I hope that after competing in two Olympics myself I presented myself in the manner he did.
Thank you for being inspiring. Thank you for your guidance and thank you for your support. The world needs more great people like you.

I remember Mr. Adams for his incredible insight into the potential of all his players / crew, as he would crouch down or lean down to their level…(he was a giant in many ways!) and He would quietly speak words that could only drive your confidence high, and inspire you to work harder for what He knew you were capable of!
That’s my MR. ADAMS “COACH”

My heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Bob’s entire circle of family, friends, colleagues and students. I had the good fortune to be a colleague of Bob’s at the Collegiate in my role as an administrator from ‘93 to 2000. He was a tremendous teacher. He taught me a lot as well. A man of high standards and remarkable humanity, he was a mentor to everyone he was in contact with. His classroom and life lessons left indelible marks on us all. Thank you for sharing him with us. May his memory be a blessing.
