James Wittig

Obituary of James Wilfred Frances Wittig

James Wilfred Frances Wittig passed away after a brief illness, on Saturday, August 24th, 2024.

Born in Stratford to Wilfred and Gloria Wittig, they moved soon after to St. Catharines with his four siblings, Bob (Debbie), Bill (Diane), Sandra (the late Charles), and Christopher (Alison). The boys worked under Wilfred, an electrician and owner of Wittig Electric, all becoming successful electricians themselves, creating a dynasty of Wittig electricians throughout St. Catharines.

Jim branched out and incorporated James Electric in 1982, and for the last forty-two years has done the electrical for a large portion of the City, likely even the Tim Horton’s you go to for your morning coffee. In the 90’s he had the opportunity to join a bunch of friends in becoming partners at Cat’s Caboose, his favourite place to be since he came of drinking age, and where he remained a staple, and met many of his dearest friends throughout the years.

In 2018, Jim married his beautiful wife, Cathy, in Fort Myers, Florida. They were two peas in a pod, with Jim splitting his time between his home in St. Catharines and his home in Fort Myers.

Not only a beloved brother, husband, and successful business owner, Jim’s favourite title was that of Dad to Ashley (David), William (Alesha), and Connor (Shayla).  He was a deeply caring father, he taught his children everything he could, and he always made sure they knew they had his unconditional love. We will love and miss him for the rest of our lives.

Jim had a lot of pride in his City, and his City had a lot of pride in him. We hope you’ll join us for his funeral at St. Julia Church on Friday, August 30th at 11am.

A celebration of his life will follow at Cat’s Caboose from 12-4pm.
