Obituary of Maria Serafini

Maria Serafini (nee Alberello) died peacefully this morning on Aug 24, 2024 at Viva Retirement Home in Oakville Ontario. She was born in Pozzuolo, Italy on August 7, 1934. At the request of Ferruccio, who she would soon marry, she immigrated to Canada in 1954, to start a new adventure.

She is predeceased by her husband Ferruccio, her parents Zoele and Venusta, and her sister Lavigna. She is survived by her sister Olvide, brother Pino and two children Lidia (Rodger) Dal Bianco and Dan (Kim) Serafini. She had 4 grandchildren Tina, Chris, Lauren and David. Her great grandchildren include Michela, Maria, Lilliana, Austin, Oliver and Addison.

She grew up in Italy during World War 2 and despite seeing many terrible things she only ever had love in her heart. Her passion was her family. She loved being a wife, mother, nonna and bisnonna. She was committed to ensuring that everyone was taken care of and that they were happy, healthy, and loved.  

She had great affection for her extended family and friends. There was rarely a time where the house wasn’t filled with family and friends. Food, drink, music, dancing and playing cards was always on the agenda. She also enjoyed traveling, and she would take her love of life on the road to many destinations around the world. 

Maria was an amazing cook well known for her cappelletti, passatelli and the best lasagna in the world. 

She was recently blessed to have celebrated her 90th birthday. She was so happy to be surrounded by her family 

Her coworkers, her friends and caretakers went out of their way to say how wonderful and kind she was. 

Special thanks to all of the staff at Viva Retirement Home who took such great care of her.

She was a warm soul with a kind heart. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Maria will be interned at Victoria Lawn Cemetery in St. Catharines Ontario.
