Obituary of Timothy Arthur Dunn

Dunn: Timothy, Arthur (Tim),

Tim entered the nearer presence of God with family by his side in his 80th year at Niagara Falls Hospital on 23, August, 2024 after a sudden illness.

Cherished husband of Mary Ann for over 57 years. Proud Dad to Sean (Cindy), Bob (Haley) and Heather (Richard). Devoted Grandad to Ryan (Emma), Brendon, Grace, Maddox, Timothy and wee Ruby Rose. Predeceased by father and mother Bob and Ruth Dunn and brother Robin.

Tim grew up in St.Catharines and spent his summers swimming at the family cottage on the Niagara Coast of Lake Ontario. As a young person he delivered flowers for the family flower shop, Dunn’s Florists, and worked as a lifeguard along with his father at a public pool;  teaching thousands of people how to swim. Tim took after his father, who swam across Lake Ontario, and started racing as a swimmer at an early age. Tim moved onto rowing and won the Calder Cleland Trophy rowing heavy 8 for St. Catharines Collegiate at the Henley Regatta.  This later influenced him to start a rowing program at a secondary school.  Tim played football at Western University where he also studied English. He loved all sports and coached hockey, soccer and rowing teams.  He never missed a dance recital. He enjoyed taking time to drive his grandkids to practices and never missed one of their games. Tim was an avid reader with an extensive library. He loved woodcarving, poetry and music and played the cello and Spanish guitar. Tim retired after teaching English 31 years in Exeter and Niagara Falls secondary public boards. He was Past Master of Perfection Lodge #616 and Past Grand Stewart of the Grand Lodge of Ontario. He was a longtime member of Twenty Valley Golf Club. For many years Tim helped organize and serve meals for the St. Catharines Out of the Cold program. He also helped deliver meals to those in need. Tim quietly helped too many people to count. He did this at the drop of a hat, without counting the cost, and without question. He did not turn his back on anyone. Family was most important to Tim and he was so proud of his children and grandchildren. Tim loved God with all his heart and cherished a lifetime of worship and fellowship at St. Thomas’ Church.  Throughout his life he extended brotherly love to all those around him. A good and faithful servant of Our Lord, he will be greatly missed by many friends and extended family. Rest eternal grant unto Tim O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him
