Charmaine Makaruk

Obituary of Charmaine Josephine Makaruk

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Charmaine Josephine Makaruk of St. Catharines on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at the age of 62 years. She was a vibrant, gentle soul whose faith carried her to the end.  She spent her last days surrounded by people (and dogs) who loved her and who she loved back.  She passed with the beautiful sound of Amazing Grace playing in the background.

She will be lovingly remembered by her half-sister Stella and cousin Monica, as well as cousins Dan, Suzy, and numerous relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her loving parents Stan and Adele, and special close relatives Aunt Kadia (Richard) and cousin Luise (Bill) as well as many other loving family members..

Charmaine was part of the Mainstream family for 30+ years (AKA Their Turkey) and had so many dear friends in that time. Her friendships were genuine and she cared so deeply for everyone she knew. She will especially be missed by her long-time roommates Jeanie and Bonnie as well as her best friend John. Char also loved her family deeply and would tell stories about them and her life growing up.

Special memories include Charmaine’s participation as part of the Special Olympics bowling team in Port Dalhousie for many years. She enjoyed almost any activity offered to her as long as she got to spend time with her friends; some favourites in the last couple of years were Friday bingo games, any sporting event, chair yoga and knitting club. Her annual trip to Wasaga Beach, with her best friend John, was something she looked forward to for months before and talked about often. She loved sports and could tell you statistics about all of her favourite teams.

Charmaine’s faith carried her through, and it was rare to visit her without her much-loved bibles being seen. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church for most of her life. Her long-time roommates, Jeanie and Bonnie, along with all of the Mainstream family will miss her dearly.

She is now reunited with her parents and her dear cat, Penny. A Visitation will be held at 10:00am-12:00pm on Wednesday, August 14 2024 at George Darte Funeral Home on 585 Carlton Street, St Catharines, followed by a Celebration of Charmaine's life with a lunch-in.
