Gabriele Delle Monache

Obituary of Gabriele Delle Monache

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gabriele Delle Monache, in his 87th year, on July 4th, 2024. Devoted husband to Carina (Bambina née: Colantoni) of 65 years, loving father to Ezio Delle Monache (Rosa) and Adriana Ico (Robert). Beloved Nonno to Serena, Gabriele (Kodi), Maria Chiara Delle Monache and Marissa, Jessica, and Madeline Ico, who will continue to honour his memory by carrying forward the values he held dearly.

Predeceased by his parents Antonio and Filomena Delle Monache, and parents-in-laws Domenico and Maria Colantoni. Loving brother to Corradina (Sistino) Iezzi, the late Ida (late Guido) Di Berardinis and Italo (Ida) Delle Monache in Farindola, Italy, and brother-in-law to the late Giuseppe and Maria Colantoni. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, both in Farindola and Canada.

Born in Farindola, Pescara, Italy, Gabriele immigrated to Canada with his wife and two young children in 1969 with a vision for a prosperous future for his family. He was ready to work hard from the day he arrived and enjoyed many decades working in construction until retiring from the City of St. Catharines.

He often enjoyed a glass of his homemade wine or brandy, playing cards, both at the café and on his iPad, and dancing the night away at parties. Gabriele found solace in the tranquility of his garden, where he tended to his famous fig tree, towering sunflowers, and many (many) vegetables. While he cherished his garden, his true joy came from the strong roots he’s established to watch the branches of his family tree grow. His family will forever be his greatest pride.

A man of immense warmth and generosity, Gabriele cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren. He instilled in them a deep appreciation for family values and hard work. His home was filled with love, organetti music, and wisdom often imparted through riddles. His door was always open, the table always bountiful and he was always ready to lend a helping hand. His arrosticini making expertise will remain legendary, often called upon by many to share his talents. He very much enjoyed time with his many friends and his years with the Club Roma Choir.

His legacy of resilience, compassion, and dedication will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

A warm thank you is extended to Eileen and the entire palliative care team for their tender care. The family extends their gratitude to family and friends for all their love and support.
