Obituary of Peter Bolli

Dr. Peter Bolli, MD, FACP, FRCP (Glasg), FRCP (Edin), MACP, FAHA

1932 – 2024

On May 23rd our beloved father, Peter Bolli, passed away peacefully at his home in St. Catharines at the age of 92. Born in Zürich, Switzerland, Peter spent his life as a consummate physician, dedicated to the care of his patients. His quest for medical research took him all over the world, together with his loving wife Brigitte.  From many parts of Europe to Japan and later New Zealand, he ultimately settled in Canada, where he continued his research and clinical practice until his early 80’s. Peter especially enjoyed teaching in his profession at various medical schools including Memorial University’s Faculty of Medicine and McMaster’s Faculty of Medicine. The recipient of numerous teaching, clinical and research awards, he dedicated a large portion of his career to the betterment of public health with research and advocacy in the field of Hypertension. For many years, Peter maintained a clinical and teaching practice in Internal Medicine in St. Catharines together with his long-time friend and colleague Dr. Peter Fernandez. Above all, Peter was a loving father and husband. He is survived by his son Marc Bolli (Amanda), sister in law Fränzi Bertram and was predeceased by his parents (Erwin and Lina Bolli). He had a wide circle of caring neighbours and friends in St. Catharines and beyond, and was so appreciative of their friendship and support. He was especially grateful for the support and help of Rob and Armida, Maxima, Karen, Irene, Filomena, Riza and Stacy. Special thanks also to the  the kind staff of the Niagara Home and Community Care Support Services, in particular Julie and Ari and the staff of the mobile integrated health team. Special thanks also to the RN (Gary) and PSW staff of Paramed. He was very fond of dogs and animals in general and loved walking in the St. Catharines parks with his dear wife Brigitte and their beloved poodle Lulu. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and no flowers are requested. Donations can be made to Hypertension Canada, in recognition of Peter’s lifelong work to improve health outcomes for people with Hypertension and in acknowledgement of his years of service to the organization. Wherever Peter now is, we are sure he is still delivering conference papers, and using his trademark phrase “next slide please”.
