Obituary of Mario Francescutti
It is with complete sadness that the family of Mario Francescutti announce his passing on April 26, 2024, in his 95th year.
Surrounded by his loving family; predeceased by his wife Laura Ann; survived by his daughter Marie and cherished granddaughters Elizabeth Avis (Chris) and Nicole Balsom.
Dad was a self-made man, a gentleman, one who was sincere and true to his word. He lived a full and vibrant life and touched the lives of many people along the way. An avid reader, he had a curious mind and a willingness to pursue knowledge. A lover of music — both classical and jazz, he enjoyed good conversation and a competitive game of crib.
Originally from the mountains of northern Italy in the region of Friuli, dad experienced his first air flight in 1948, when he arrived in Canada landing on the east coast greeted by our unique Canadian winters. Very dear to his heart were summers spent north and winter vacations south.
A charter member of Club Roma, memories of his many friends - Peter Greco, Ubaldo Tesolin and a group of other dedicated individuals would regularly gather in our family home to plan the realization of an Italian club in St. Catharines. And, they certainly did accomplish their dreams with lots of hard work, fundraising and dedication. A once muddy road and field of trees on Vansickle Road was slowly transformed into a beautiful landscape and club created by a dedicated group of volunteers/members. This was where dad devoted much of his free time.
Since we lost mom in 2009, I had the pleasure of experiencing another relationship with dad, not as his child, but as his friend. So, I thank you dad, for allowing me to be part of this incredible journey that we shared over the last fifteen years. You became my dear friend and together we shared and created memories full of laughter, good stories and countless games of crib.
To his many wonderful nieces and nephews living in New York, Belgium, Naples and Friuli, I thank you for regularly connecting with dad through telephone calls, letters and cards to mark special occasions – it always made his day, brought a smile to his face and warmed his heart. Dad, although you have left us, you will always remain in my heart – my father, my confidant, my friend.
A private family ceremony will take place.
