Obituary of Sophie Ann Vitez

Sophie Vitez  February 26, 1937 - April 7, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that our family announces the passing of Sophie Ann Vitez at the age of 87. The loving wife of 65 years to Alex Vitez. Mother to Caroline (Rodger) Niznik, Mike (Christine) and Tom (Robin) and cherished grandmother to Matthew, Kate, Cameron, and Claire.

She enjoyed laughing and playing bingo with friends and loved spending hours in her happy place, cooking and baking in the kitchen. Considered to be a gourmet cook by family and friends, she loved spoiling family and friends with many memorable feasts on holidays and special occasions. Early in retirement she enjoyed travelling and exploring new places with Alex. Sophie loved spending time with her grandchildren and passed down skills like how to bake, knit, crochet, and play ping-pong to name a few. She will forever remain in our hearts and thoughts as a loving mother/grandmother, and a very caring and generous person with a wonderful sense of humour. The family would like to extend our sincere thank you to the staff at Martindale Place Retirement home and Tabor Manor for their help and support attending to Sophie’s every need.

Family will receive friends at George Darte Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 585 Carlton St., in St. Catharines on Monday, April 15, 2024 from 10:30 - 11:30 am a Final Tribute will follow in the Ceremony Room. Interment Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Arthritis Society Canada, or Arthritis Research Canada.
