Obituary of Betty Storosko
Our loving mother and wife, Betty Storosko (Elizabeth Ellen Pennock), passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5th, 2024, at the age of 91 years.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 70 years, Edward, and their children, Susan Gogo (Brian) and Brian Storosko (Patricia). Her constant love, care, and cookies will be remembered by her grandchildren, Brittany Dixon (Nick), Tyler Gogo (Andrea Smerek), Andrew Storosko (Jera Bortolussi), Iain Storosko, and Erin Storosko. Betty was blessed to be a great-grandmother to 4 beautiful children: Jack, Elle, Max, and Teddy. She was loved by her niece, Ronda Styger, who was a loving presence in her social care as she aged. She is fondly remembered by her many Storosko and Richardson nieces and nephews.
Betty was born in Elnora, Alberta, in 1933, the daughter of Richard and Margaret Pennock but was a Port Dalhousie girl all her life. Betty, with her sister Louise as her sidekick, grew up on Pine St. attending McArthur School and the St. Catharines Collegiate and playing along the banks of the Henley course. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Church and worked as a Bell operator in Port Dalhousie. She was proud to be part of the 1948 women’s rowing crews, who paved the way for numerous women in St. Catharines to have a ‘place in the boat’.
As an adult, she spent many years as an 18th Woodland Cub Scout Leader, a participant with the St. Catharines PC party, and a dedicated volunteer at St. John’s Anglican Church, earning her the Order of Niagara award.
Betty’s smile and love will be with us always. Visitation will be at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines, Friday, April 12th, from 4:30 - 7:00 pm. The Funeral Service will take place at St. John’s Anglican Church, 80 Main Street, St. Catharines, Saturday, April 13th, at 11:00 am, with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers Betty has requested that any donations be directed to St. John’s Anglican Church.
