My sympathies to the Houghton family. I had the pleasure of managing a Salmon Lodge that John was a guest at for many years on the Restigouche River. John and I spent a day visiting in Campbellton and Atholville, his homestead on King Street as well the Pulp mill in Atholville I believe his Dad managed at one time. At the time I was Mayor of Campbellton and enjoyed stories he shared.
John was a true gentleman and very kind. He enjoyed his time on Restigouche with us. Again sympathies.

A professional, a leader, and a good man! He represented the company well, and was open to changes. Someone you could count on in times of need. And he was highly respected by his peers in the Canadian forest and pulp and paper industry. Glad to have known him...and my deepest condolences to his family.

To: The Houghton Daughters,
Edna and I share your grief I first met your father on the Moisie River many years ago. We became friends. We both shared the same interest for the Atlantic salmon and its conservtion. We were members of the board of Directors of the Atlantic Salmon Federation( Canada for many years) where we were able to contribute to several conservation initiatives. John was a natural leader, a gentleman and a person of pleasant company. With your mother, he was very proud of of you. He has been a very dear ffriend to me and I will always cherish the unforgettable moments Edna and I shared with your father and mother at the Wathishou Camp. Please accept our deppest condoleances and the assurance of our continued frienship. A lamp will burn in the Holy Family Church of Sept-Iles to accompany him on hid last trip.

My wife and I were saddened to hear of John’s passing. He was a gentleman and a leader that I respected and admired.
As a member of the management team of Ontario/Quebec North Shore paper companies, which John lead for many years, I had the opportunity to interact with him in good times and bad for the business. On many, many occasions, I benefited from his wise counsel and strong support. In the end, it always came down to do “the right thing”.

Very sorry to learn of John's passing. I met him during meetings at ASF and even though it was many years ago my memory of him to this day is, what a gentleman he was. He had a way of setting people at ease and gained the respect of all because of his compassion for the environment and the conservation of Wild Atlantc salmon. He was definitely a leader.
I'm certain there will be many good memories within the family to ensure he will never be forgotten.
