Obituary of Peter William McDowell

McDOWELL, Peter William-It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter McDowell with family by his side on December 22, 2023. Peter was 76 years of age. He is survived by his wife Janet, daughter Michelle, son-in-law Troy, grand-daughters Madison and Quinn, and dear friend, Sandra Bell.

Peter worked as an investment advisor for over 45 years. He was an avid tennis player and skier until recent years, and enjoyed walking and hiking in the outdoors, especially near the water. He was a proud Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Welland for many years and served on the board of the Niagara Peninsula Children’s Centre for several terms. Peter was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word, greeting everyone by name with a smile and a hearty handshake.

Peter will be missed by his brother John (Barb) and their children, Cheryl, Todd (Delores), Dale (Greg), and Dawn (Barclay), as well as his brother-in-law Mark (Julie) and their sons Charlie and Sam. Peter was preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Gertrude (Jean), and his wife of 40 years, Maria.

Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, January 7th from 2-4p.m. & 6-8p.m. at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St Catharines. A private service will occur. A Celebration of Peter's Life will take place on Sunday, January 14th from 1-4p.m. at Peninsula Lakes Golf Club in Fonthill. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region.
