Obituary of Wolfgang Peter Janke

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness the family of Wolfgang Janke announce his peaceful passing on Monday, December 18th 2023 at the Heidehof. Survived by his cherished spouse of 50 years, Joan Janke; loving children Juanita (Joe) D’Eramo, Mickey (Ingrid) Janke, Suzanne Janke and Jenny (Jim) Janke-Predovich; adored grandpa to JoAnna, Joey, Ellis, Felix and Edwin; and great-grandpa; Wolf is also survived by his sisters, Ilona and Evelyn. Wolf is predeceased by his parents, Ursula and Otto Janke; sister Karla and brother, John. Wolf was born in Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1952 to begin a new life in the Niagara Region where he retired after a successful 30-year career with General Motors as a Tool and Cutter Grinder. Wolf was an avid sportsman and coach, he loved to play soccer, hockey, handball, racquetball and squash. Wolf was a long-time member of the St. Catharines YMCA where he combined his love of sports and his socialbility.

 

He was involved in his church as an usher and will fondly be remembered as an amazing husband, father and friend. He enjoyed travelling to warm destinations, camping at Buckhorn Lake in the summers and spending many afternoons out in his fishing boat. We wish to give the staff at Heidehof our sincerest gratitude for their excellent care of Wolf over the years. In keeping with Wolf’s wishes, funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the GEORGE DARTE Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. Cremation has taken place and a private burial will be held at a later date. If desired, please consider making donations in memory of Wolf to the Knox Presbyterian Church, Heidehof and/or the March of Dimes.
