Obituary of Velta Erika Bertholds

Bertholds: Velta (nee: Ozolins) passed away suddenly at St Catharines General Hospital  on December 3, 2023. Pre deceased by her husband of 52 years Vilnis, she is survived by her children Maira Kramer and Normunds (Morena), her grandchildren Dylan, Paige and Austin. Also survived by her great-grand-daughter Zoe and sister Ausma Pludons.

Known as Oma to her family, they were the most important thing in her life. She had a love of animals and spending time in the garden, baking, cooking  and canning. She stayed as active as possible even when her mobility was failing.

She will be dearly missed by her family. At Velta's request cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.  If so desired (in lieu of flowers) donations to the Ontario SPCA or the Canadian Wildlife Federation would be appreciated by the family.

Our mother kept a garden.

A garden of the heart:

She planted all the good things,

That gave our life its start.

She turned us to the sunshine,

And encouraged us to dream:

Fostering and nuturing

The seeds of self-esteem.

And when the winds and rain came,

She protected us enough;

But not too much, she knew we'd need

To Stand up strong and tough.

Her constant good example,

Always taught us right from wrong;

Marker for our pathway

To last our whole life long.

We are our mother's garden,

We are her legacy.

And hope today she feels the love,

Reflected back from us.
