Kevin and I have been friends for over 53 years. We have experienced a lot together in this life. Births, deaths weddings funerals. I fact Kevin was godfather to my oldest son Geoffrey. We have always tried to be there for one another on times of need. Even if we lost touch, we'd inevitably show up at each other's family members funerals just to show how much we cared. Sadly I haven't spoken to Kevin in a while and had no idea he was sick.
I never imagined that I would be attending a family memorial with out him by my side.
Rest in peace Kevin, hopefully I'll see you on the other side

Kevin was among my very dearest and closest friends. We first met at one of the "Schoolhouse Dances" in Guelph, in late October 1989. I was just new to the Gay scene at the time and I was too shy to talk to anyone. He struck up a conversation with me and I was astounded by his confidence and openness. Over the years following, together we built a very close friendship. He introduced each other to our family and friends and visited each other often. We talked about anything and everything, he was so easy to converse with. We vacationed together in Provincetown Massachusetts, a famous resort town on the Atlantic coast. And at last, he engineered a party at his house on Boxing Day, 1991 with two of his friends. One of these was Harry Ennis, in whom I took a keen interest and following the party I set up a date for just the two of us. The rest, of course, is history and we've been together since. I learned later that Kevin had put together that party with the express interest of matchmaking Harry and me. So in effect, Kevin set me off on my way to the rest of my life! I will be forever grateful to him for thinking enough of me to put this plan together. For the rest of my days, I will always reflect on my good fortune to have met and befriended this amazing man.

Kevin Doyle 1958 to 2023 My first friend
I heard some commotion on the other side of the cedar hedge behind our house. I made my way into the branches of a cedar tree and watched, funnily enough, much like I do when waiting for wildlife to appear. I watched and saw a little boy about my age. I slowly came out of the cedar and introduced myself to my first friend. Kevin and I would become best friends for a time. That cedar hedge ended up with a gap from our comings and goings. Kevin reminded me of the puppet shows I would arrange in the garage, I had forgotten. When we were about 5 Kevin decided we should kiss. We did a quick peck on the lips, then we went to show his Mom. She laughed. We then went to show my Mom. We did not get the same response LOL. No more kissing for us, but he will always have been my first kiss. We didn’t realize it then but we both marched to our own drums. When we played our neighbourhood games Kevin always wanted to be the mother. That was fine with me, I don’t think I ever took the part of a person in these games, I was always an animal of some sort so it worked out perfectly. To us that was normal. We attended grades 1 to 8 at St John’s school in Beamsville walking to the bus stop for years all the way down Park Avenue , up Park road across the bridge and then over the tracks to the bus stop by the stores. We once got in trouble from a policeman when we were laying on the bridge dropping potato chips over the edge trying to hit a car. We ran straight home after that! Kevin and I were in Mrs. Head’s choir from very early on right through to grade 8 and of course we were together in our yearly Christmas concert performances. He had a lovely singing voice.
Kevin and I attended Grimsby High School but our paths veered here. I was into band and sports, I am not sure what Kevin was up to. I think I remember him in the smoking area which was not a place I frequented. I remember calling him to come over to take some pictures of me with my baton. The paper had asked for a picture when I won a trophy in Stoney Creek. So Kevin was officially my first photographer as well and his work was printed before mine. LOL I remember once, while I was in the backyard trying to entice a cardinal into the yard by whistling back I realized the bird was echoing my call exactly. I was baffled until after a few minutes of this a wolf whistle came at the end of the call. It was Kevin of course and he and I laughed through the hedge this time, that gap had grown over by now. We lost touch for a time. I saw him at his Brother Wayne’s wake and we kept in touch through Facebook from time to time. We had planned to meet at Albright for coffee so that Kevin could visit with dad but covid struck and it never happened. How sad we missed out on that opportunity.
It is with great sadness that I write this. Kevin was a gentle soul with a loving heart. Rest in Peace my friend. Condolences to Margaret Rose and family Norrie Franko

Kevin was one of the first people I met when I moved to Ontario and came out. He actually was the one who set me up with my partner Bruce 32 years ago. He was kind, generous, funny, gregarious and was absolutely the best storyteller I've ever met. He had an incredible ability to keep people hanging on every word. Thank you for 30+ years of laughs and friendship. I love you dearly and will always carry you in my heart. See you on the other side my friend. Sincere condolences to Margaret Rose and all the Doyle family.

My deepest condolences to Kevin’s family for their loss. I would be lying if I said I’ve known him since 1968, but Kevin has known me since then. Most kids eagerly anticipating the arrival of Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. Not me,I eagerly awaited Kevin’s arrival to our get together’s on Book Road. Kevin was kind, compassionate and a hoot to be around. I cherish the card of condolences Kevin sent me when my mother passed away. He said how happy my mom was when she brought me home from the hospital in October 1968 and introduced Kevin to me. I love you Kevin and thanks for the great Christmas memories.
