Obituary of Giovanni (John) D'Abramo
D'Abramo, Giovanni (John) - Surrounded by his family, on Monday, October 22, 2012 at the St. Catharines General Hospital at the age of 85. Loving husband to Maria for over 65 years. Beloved Papa to Letizia (Michele) Giacomino, late son Michael (1997) and his wife Marcella. Cherished Nonno to Lucio (Marilisa) Giacomino, Kathia (Sergio) Gervasi, Maria Lucia (Domenic) Guerriero, Johnny, and Linda. Special Bis Nonno to Charles, Roman, Gabriel, Daniel, Stefania and Mikayla. Predeceased by his parents Michele and Gaetana.
Born in Lucito, Campobasso in 1927 where he wed Maria. They immigrated to St. Catharines in 1965, where he began his career as a barber, and then worked for General Motors for over 25 years. John devoted much of his time to the Italian community and St. Alfred's Church. He was the president of the Mount Carmel Feastival for over 30 years. Gardening, family, travelling with his wife, singing in the Italian Folklorista del Niagara Peninsula Choir, playing his accordion, his van, wine making and gatherings in his back porch were all a big part of his life. John was a very loyal man, had a good sense of humour, and would always put his fellow man first and was heavily involved with various charities within St. Catharines.
He will be fondly and forever remembered and cherished by many family and friends.
The family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street with visiting to take place on Wednesday from 7-9pm and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9pm. Vigil Prayers will be said in the funeral home on Thursday at 3pm. Funeral Liturgy will be on Friday at St. Alfred's Church, 272 Vine Street at 11am with entombment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Donations in memory of John can be made to St. Catharines General Hospital - Walker Cancer Centre.
