The Gold Cord in Guiding was introduced in 1918 as the highest award that could be earned by a Girl Guide. It would remain the highest award until it was replaced by the Canada Cord in 1971. In 1960 Sandy Sullivan and Glennice Gray from the same company were reccipients of this award.

I was very sorry to learn that Sandra had passed away. We were Girl Guides together and participated in so many activities that helped to shape us into the women that we became. Her family is in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Sincerely, Glennice (Gray) Bonnar

I am so sorry to hear of Sandra's passing. I knew her through Scarborough Salvation Army, mostly guides. I know it is hard right now, but in time it gets better. I know this, as my Mom (Joan Gray) passed away in November and it takes time.
I would like to pass on my condolences to the family.

Dianne and I wish to extend our sincere condolences to Tim and his family.
I had the pleasure of first meeting Sandy while singing with the Evergreen choir at the Grace United Church back in 2013. Sandy was one of the first people to approach me and welcome me to the choir. Over the years we got to know Tim and Sandy and always appreciated their friendship and kindness. She will be missed by everyone that knew her.

For now, it may be too soon for Sandy's loved ones, still raw with grief, to experience peace at her passing. Yet, in the course of time, I hope that peace will arrive and deepen along with the joy of having shared some part of the life Sandy was born to live.
What comes to my mind at this moment, for some odd reason, is a summer way back in time, a summer when Sandy, three other Girl Guides and I shared a tent at camp at Jackson's Point on the shores of Lake Simcoe. We were, by chance, all first-borns and, likely as a result, all determined to come first every day with our breakfast clean-ups. We did. I remember too learning we could lay out our sleeping bags in the afternoon sunshine, then roll them up tightly so they would still have a little of that toasty warmth when we snuggled into bed at night. We learned from the forest ranger that a campfire was never safely extinguished until the earth we shovelled on top of it had no warmth to the touch. Sometimes we slept under the stars, adrift in wonder, connected in some way to that great, wide universe. No doubt we wondered, sometimes out loud, what each of our lives ahead might hold. It was a magical time and I always think of Sandy gazing up at the stars and wondering, along with me.

Life will not be the same without Sandy’s vivaciousness and smile. She holds a special place in our hearts. A wonderful, loving sister. Creative, funny and a spreader of genuine “ fairy dust”. Love you forever.
