Obituary of Mary Mussat
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mary Mussat (Grishkewich) on Sunday, September 17th at NHS St Catharines after a short illness.
Mary was the loving mother of son Robert and daughter Janis (Adam), She was a devoted Baba of Noa and Yael. Dear sister of Sophie, sister-in-law of Joyce, and called Aunt Mary by so many cherished nieces and nephews. Kevin (Cindy), Jane, Cheryl (Gary), Billy, Pat (Bob), Michael (Sara), Alan (Yosie), Hilda, Carol (Barry), Lescia and Maurice. She also had dozens of great nieces and nephews whom she adored and kept in touch with. She was predeceased by her husband Joe Mussat and her brothers Alec, Bill, Mike, Nick, and sister Annie.
Mary was born in 1930 in Port Weller and was the 6th of 7 children. She attended Maplewood Public School and then the St. Catharines Collegiate, graduating in 1948. After high school she attended the Hamilton General Hospital School of Nursing and later the University of Toronto. When she retired she was an OR Supervisor at the Hotel Dieu, and was active with the Graduate Nurses Association for many years after that. She volunteered for several different community based charities in her retirement.
Mary was an avid gardener and with her husband Joe, had a small hobby farm growing vegetables and a wide array of flowers each summer. She was a stellar baker, and an amazing friend and confidant to all who knew her. She grew and changed with the world, never stopped learning and was always up for playing a game and having a laugh. She never spoke ill of others and had such a love of life and humanity and compassion for those less fortunate. She taught all of us how to live a good life by example. We will all miss her very much.
In honouring Mary's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, September 23rd. Visitation between 10a.m. - 11a.m. with a service at 11 a.m.followed by refreshments.
