Jeanette Anderson

Obituary of Jeanette Anderson

Passed away peacefully at United Mennonite Home in Vineland on Sunday August 6th at the age of 83; loving mother to, Brad Woods (Jill) Sandy Summers (Rob) and Craig Renwick (Corey); Grandmother to, Keefer Gibson (Jessica), Duncan Woods and Lauren Summers; Great-Grandmother to, Alden and Asher Gibson; Sister to Bonnie Russ and Aunt to Nancy, Rick and Bill; Sister-in-law to Rita Mahon. Jeanette is predeceased by her cherished parents, Jacob and Jean Lahmer, brother Thomas Lahmer and former loves, Brian Woods and Brian Anderson.

Jeanette lived in Port Dalhousie where she raised her two children, Brad and Sandy. When they were young, Jeanette worked at the Community Grocer on Gertrude and Main St. She could also be found delivering Avon to her favourite clients on her bicycle. Later, she began working at Town and Country Ladies Wear at the Fairview Mall, a perfect place for her as the incredible social and stylish lady she was.

Jeanette was very involved with the Liberal Association, she helped on many campaigns over the years and would also be involved at Election time. Every year, she looked forward to the Annual Liberal BBQ on Henley Island where she could be found having a cold beer, burger and that first cob of corn being cooked in the big kettle outside! She would work the patio chatting with friends.

In her later years Jeanette would become involved with the Shaver Hospital, volunteering at their Bingos as well as helping in the coffee shop, or delivering books to rooms.

Jeanette loved the sunshine and beach, she took many trips to Mexico with her dear friends the Taylor’s and later would go to Florida with her wonderful husband Brian Anderson, after his passing she continued to travel to Florida on her own where she would meet up with the other Snowbirds escaping the winter.

Jeanette was a devoted grandmother, she could be found cheering them on at various sporting venues whether it was Hockey, basketball, soccer or heading West to watch a dance recital. “Grammy Dude” as her grandson, Keefer referred to her as, loved her time being a Grammy. She was blessed that her two beautiful great-grandsons, Alden and Asher visited often from Calgary, including recently bringing much joy to her life.

Sadly the last part of Jeanette’s journey has had its challenges. With Alzheimer’s and her recent hip fracture, and then a stroke Jeanette fought with her amazing strength and spirit. Surrounded with love, comfort and care she was able to pass peacefully.

May the sunshine always shine on her beautiful soul.

Much gratitude to the incredible staff at the United Mennonite Home for including her in their family in the the short time she was in their care.
