KWINECKI, Weronika (Tobiasz)
Passed away peacefully at the St. Catharines Hospital on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 27th, 2023 in her 100th year.
Weronika was predeceased by her loving husband, the late Jozef in 1989. Cherished mother to her 2 sons George (Cecilia) and Henry (Frances). Babcia was blessed with 5 grandchildren Joey (Saoirse), Vera (David), Veronika (Rocky), James (Sydney) and Vanessa; and her great-grandchildren Maisy, Justin, Sophia and Vivienne.
Weronika was born in Kobyle, Poland on May 15, 1924 to Rose Klimek and John Tobiasz. In June 1940 at the age of 16 she was forced to go to Germany to work on a farm until WW2 ended in May 1945. Until October 2, 1948 she was in an American soldiers camp working as a janitor. Weronika chose to come to Canada and had a one year work contract to work as a housekeeper on a farm in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. After her contract ended she and her girlfriend took a train to Val-d’Or Quebec. There in June 1950 she met her husband Jozef and married on December 30th 1950. In September 1970 she and her family moved to Hamilton to provide more opportunities to her 2 sons.
In March of 1980 after her husband Jozef retired, Weronika and her family moved to St. Catharines to be closer to her growing family. While in St. Catharines she was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, in later years Star of The Sea Church, and a member of the Polish Combatants Association.
Weronika’s family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the team at St. Catharines Hospital for going above and beyond to keep her comfortable in her last days.
Weronika loved spending time with her family and friends, celebrations, cooking and baking, dancing, playing cards and gardening were her favorite past times.
Weronika’s family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Thursday, June 29th from 6-9pm. Funeral Liturgy for Weronika will be celebrated at Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, 34 Elgin Street, on Friday, June 30th at 11am. Interment Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Niagara Health System, St. Catharines Site- ONE Foundation, in Weronika’s honour would be appreciated by her family.
