Obituary of Gordon Richard Merrill

Yours was a life well spent. 

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Gordon (Gord) Richard Merrill – Our Hero, Husband, Brother, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. 

Surrounded by his loved ones, at 80 years of age, Gord passed away peacefully on June 20, 2023.

Beloved husband of 40 years to Connie (deceased).  Gord leaves his legacy with his three children Rick (Sandi), Brent (Kerri) and Chantal.  

Cherished grandfather to Jesse (Laura), Kaitlyn, Victoria, Emma and Ethan and Great Grandfather to Joey G and Charlie.

Gord will be lovingly remembered by his wife Daph (Johnson) and her children Rich (Laura) and Sandi (Mike, Mitchell and Boden). 

Gord was born and raised in Montreal and was the youngest child to Leonard and Lillian Merrill.  At the age of 17, Gord moved to St. Catharines where he began his life with Connie and his proud career as a St. Catharines Firefighter.  He leaves many friends and family who remember his love for golf, playing cardswith friends, his favorite sports teams the Montreal Canadians and Buffalo Bills and mostly how proud he was of his children and grandchildren.  

Gord retired from the St. Catharines Fire department as a Platoon Chief in 2000 and is fondly remembered by his fellow firefighters for his passion, integrity and leadership.

Gord is predeceased by his older brother Bruce (Margaret) and his dear sister Audrey (Jack) whom took on a second mother role to Gord. 

Services will be held at George Darte Funeral Home,  585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on June 24th at 11:30am. Visitation will take place between 10:30am and 11:30am immediately followed by a funeral service. As a final wish, our hero Gord has asked that all donations in his honour be made to the Children’s Make a Wish Foundation.
