Obituary of Peggy Niven
It is with deep sorrow and profound love that the family of Margaret "Peggy" Niven (nee Gordon) announce her passing on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at the age of 74.
Peggy’s loving devotion will be forever missed by her inseparable husband Grant; her children Melanie (Tony) DiPaola, Bobby (Michelle) Niven, Matthew (Tania) Gordon; and her grandchildren Chasnie, Benny, Reese, Riley; and cherished blended family Bonnie, Ashlynn, Eddie and Melanie.
Growing up in a family of 8, Peggy has a lifetime of fond memories with her siblings Colleen (Reg) Hayes, Wallace (Nancy) Gordon, Merle (Rachel) Gordon, Rhoney (Joyce) Gordon, Benny Gordon, Sally McGarr, Marian (Ed) Gordon- Kendall, as well as her Sister-in-Law Janice (Al) O’Connor and many Nieces, Nephews and Godchildren. Peggy loved so wholeheartedly that friends, and her children’s friends, became family too.
Mrs. Niven genuinely adored every child she taught in her 32-year esteemed career as an Elementary Teacher with the Niagara Catholic School Board. Her patience and attentive kindness fostered lasting friendships and strong bonds of mutual respect with her colleagues.
Peggy has always been known for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and her faith passed down from her devout Catholic parents (Morriscy and Mary Gordon). In the past 4 years, through her valiant battle with cancer, she continued to inspire us with her quiet, graceful, and impressive strength.
From the bottom of our hearts, Thank You to Dani her dedicated home care nurse and to Mags her neighbour and nurse. Your friendship, support and care has been angelic.

The family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 585 Carlton St., on Wednesday, May 24th from 2-4 & 6-8pm. Funeral Liturgy for Peggy will be celebrated on Thursday, May 25th at St. Alfred Roman Catholic Church at 9:30am. A reception will follow in the church hall. Cremation, private family inurnment will take place at a later date. For those who may not be able to attend, the Funeral Liturgy for Peggy will be livestreamed on St. Alfred's youtube channel.
Donations are greatly appreciated for Hospice Niagara, where Peggy was nurtured and comforted in her final weeks.
