Obituary of William James Hanna

HANNA, William James.   With broken hearts we announce the passing of William James Hanna (Bill/Billy) surrounded by loved ones on March 1st, 2023 at the age of 86.  Billy is survived by his adored and loving wife of 61 years, Doreen, and his devoted daughter Karen and son-in-law Bernie Olm.  Grampa will be missed by his treasured grandson and best friend Justin Olm, and much-loved granddaughters Skye and Eryn Hanna.  Billy will also be missed by his loving sister Liz (John), his brother Bobby (Doreen), Sister-in-law Edna (Noel), and dear friends Auriol and Ronnie.  He was a favourite uncle of Lisa (Greg), Gary (Lorna), Andrew (Valerie), Robert (Diane), Linda (Yvon) and Ian (Sandy), Nikki (Jamie) and Mandy, as well as his great nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his son Steve Hanna, grandson Bernie Olm Jr. and his brother Alan.    Billy loved to sing, and his singing brought joy to many others.  He sang in the Coffee Showband in and around the Niagara area for many years.  He never met a stranger.  He genuinely loved people and was interested in everything about them, so when he met someone even if it was just sitting beside them at the doctor’s office or at the mall, they were not strangers by the time they parted.  He loved jokes, and loved to make people laugh.   He was a great boss and always stood behind his staff when he worked for Homer Lumber and St. Catharines Buildall in the 70s and 80s before going on to finish his career at Foster Wheeler.   He was a long time member and past president of the Irish Club of St. Catharines where he made many friends who became a second family.

Cremation has taken place as per Billy’s wishes.  A memorial / celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 13th anytime between 1pm – 4pm at the Merritton Legion, 2 Chestnut St. East, St. Catharines.   If desired memorial donations may be made to a cause close to Billy’s heart; Pathstone Mental Health.

Rest easy now, we love you mostest mostest mostest.
